This Week in Reading - September 2

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

The Silver Shoes by Jill G. Hall - This was for a blog tour and the cover is so pretty!  Plus it's dual timeline connected by a pair of sparkly shoes so I had to try it.  I'm really looking forward to it!  (Blog Tour)

Other than that it's been a fairly light week on the book acquiring front except that I had some time to kill and ended up at the library where I picked up an armful of books.  I know I won't get all of them read but one can always hope! Some of the ones I know I picked up are:

The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Amanda Quick
The Last Boyfriend by Nora Roberts
Pale as Death by Heather Graham
Murder on Lenox Hill by Victoria Thompson
Island Girls by Nancy Thayer
The Endless Beach by Jenny Colgan

Who knows what I'll actually read but I feel good knowing they're available!

Currently:

Reading:  The Mystery of Three Quarters by Sophie Hannah and finishing up Rooted in Deceit by Wendy Tyson

Listening:  I'm back to Written in Red by Anne Bishop and so far am enjoying it.

Watching:  We are still watching Longmire which I have some mixed feelings about.  I really loved the first two seasons but I've been a little up and down on the others.  It seems like there's always a storyline that I don't love (right now it's the Henry/Hector thing) and so I never like the shows that really focus on that while I do really enjoy the ones that don't.

Off the Blog:

This weekend is J's birthday so he is now back to being the full ten years older than me versus the just 9 he's been since May!  It very nicely coincides with a long weekend here in the States so I think we're going to do a bit of a staycation and just do fun stuff.

I've been teetering on the edge of a reading slump for quite some time and I think I'm finally beating it.  Pretty much all summer I was reading decent books but I had a hard time actually wanting to read them.  Lately I've found myself actually enjoying the reading which is such a relief.   It's nice to actually want to read again after months of being just kind of meh about it.

On the Blog:

What Happened:

What's Coming Up:

Monday:  Second Chance at 2 Love Lane - Contemporary Romance Review
Tuesday:  Assigned Reading - Wins, Fails, and Misses
Wednesday:  The Mystery of Three Quarters - Mystery Review
Friday:  Friday Linkups with Current Book
Saturday:  TBD

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. I am curious about The Silver Shoes...and The Girl Who Knew Too Much. I enjoyed Island Girls a while ago.

Have a great week, and happy birthday to J.

  2. The Silver Shoes looks like it will be good. I do like that cover. :-) I hope you like your other books as well! Happy Birthday to J! I do that too with the age, although my husband and I were born in the same year. This is my last week of the year being younger than he is. Next week we'll be the same age. Haha. I'm kind of where you were reading wise. I'm not slumping exactly, but I'm having a hard time staying focused on reading. I like the books I am reading too--which makes it harder to understand. Hopefully I'll get my mojo back soon. I hope you have a great week, Katherine.

  3. Happiness is a stack of books from the library, ha ha! Hope they turn out good, whichever ones you get to. And I hear you on Longmire- I've ended up taking quite the extended break from it, although I'd like to finish it at some point.

Enjoy your staycation, and have a great Labor Day!

  4. The Silver Shoes does have the most gorgeous cover. Even though you have been meh about reading you have got through quite a few. But I know when it happens that we feel "off our books" its a bit like being "off our food". Glad you are feeling more like reading. Happy Labor Day. (I only know because I listen to podcasts like Happier in Hollywood!).

  7. I do that with library books... Grab a bunch I want to read but have no idea when I'll get around to actually reading them. Usually, I end up having to return them before I get around to it!

Glad the reading slump is passing. Have a good week.

  8. I hope you beat the reading slump. I hate it when I get into one because I usually want to read but can't find the motivation or whatever to do it!

  13. Happy birthday to J! Kiko is 10 years older than me most the year too :) From March 29 to June 9 it's 11 years and he's not a fan of that lol!

Enjoy your staycation, those are the best :)

  14. Yes... I am 9 years old than Himself for most of the year, but for the last 3 months, I'm a whole decade older than him so I'm glad his birthday is coming up this coming week:)). Glad you are finding reading is more of a pleasure - I hate that feeling!

  15. Yeah to getting your reading mojo back and Happy Birthday to J. I was 8 years older than my ex. I wish I aged as nicely as he seems to be doing. LOL

  16. My ex and I always did the nine years/ten years thing, but it was in reverse. 😂

I have been slumping, too. I started my Sorcerer's Stone re-read via an audiobook and my illustrated edition, and that seems to be helping. I'm glad you are unslumoing, too. 👍✨

Happy birthday to J, and enjoy the holiday. 🌞

  18. Happy Birthday to J! Hope you've had a nice long weekend celebration. My birthday was yesterday :)

  19. Whenever us bookworms decide to kill time in a library (or bookshop for that matter), I think we always know we're highly likely coming away with at least one new book. Haha! I hope you enjoy your incoming reads, and great to hear that you're overcoming your reading slump - that is a great feeling. Happy reading & a lovely week to you.

  20. I love that Victoria Thompson series! To bad your not loving everything about Longmire, I pretty much loved it all but mostly I just liked watching Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Taylor lol. :) I think I can see you not liking how it ends but I liked it...lol...though would have liked more.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  21. I've had Written in Red on my shelf for a long time and I have to read it soon. I'm on the waiting list for books at my library and I hope I don't get them all at once. This has happened to me before and I did my best but I wasn't able to read them all. So I went back on the waiting list lol. I hope you enjoy your books and have a great week. Happy birthday to J!

  22. Yay for starting to get over your reading slump, and for library books! That's a good selection of books you picked up. I've read a few and have a few others on my want-to-read list. I hope you get to read most of the books you picked out this week!

  23. I love Longmire and since we have to wait for the last season to come out on DVD, don't tell me what happens there! I didn't mind the Henry/Hector thing. I just saw the actor who plays Mathias in the movie Braven. That was a lot of action!

    Happy birthday to your husband!!

  24. Nothing wrong with a shopping trip at the library :) I think it is funny how you talked about you and J's age difference. My parents were 9.5 years apart and they used to say the same thing. Have a great week!
