This Week in Reading - March 25

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

A fairly quiet week here!  Just 1 book.

Shot in the Dark by Cleo Coyle - I've really been enjoying the last few Coffeehouse Mysteries so I'm super excited to have gotten this one.  (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  Why Kill the Innocent by C.S. Harris and I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

Listening:  So I tried Poser by Claire Dederer but after about an hour I decided it wasn't really for me so I DNF'd it and am waiting my turn for the 3rd Louise Penny book.

Watching:  I've been watching The Voice and enjoying it.  I love Alicia Keys as a coach.  We just finished up the season of The Great British Bake-Off which makes me a bit sad but I just discovered that there is the version of Agatha Christie's Crooked House on Amazon Prime so that'll be watched next I think.

Off the Blog:

This week was pretty crazy.  We had the first big tornado scare of the season Monday which meant early dismissal from school and a lot of watching the weather.  It ended up being a big nothing for my area which is definitely the right way to go!  Then I had some school volunteering which ended up being a little crazier than expected.  It was school picture day and the photography company insisted on having each child hold a little chalkboard with their name written on it.  While it was really cute and not too much of a hassle for 2nd grade and up it was more than a bit challenging for kindergartners and 1st graders as there were only 2 volunteers and the teachers had to get the names written out for class pictures so they couldn't help.  We finally got some 5th graders with nice handwriting and that saved the day.

The big news is that Eleanor and her husband had their baby this week!  I don't have pictures yet because it's been hectic and I didn't have time to grab any off my phone but he's adorable and everyone is doing great.  I'm taking the out of actually being her stepmother which proves I'm not really a grandmother but I'm hoping to get in as much baby time and as much helping as I can!  The Tornado (age 8) thinks being an uncle is pretty awesome.

I like the Cleo Coyle books, but have only read two of them so far.

  6. Ooh Crooked House on Amazon Prime huh? Since I'm a fail so far at reading Christie maybe I should watch some at least. :) And shot in the Dark looks fun.

Congrats to Eleanor and her husband! What an exciting time. Wishing them all the best!!!

  7. You are in the best possible position, grandma-wise: you can choose if you are or you aren't depending on mood and time. I'd go with are; I think you will find you love it. I certainly do.

  8. Yay for the new little one! How fun for all of you! Yes, spring is here and that means thunderstorms and wind and possibly those twisters. For us too. I really like the Coffeehouse series. Though it does seem to require a good cup of coffee while reading them. LOL

  10. Congrats on the new little one, and I know you'll get in lots and lots of hugs and wet kisses.(lol) Thank goodness, the weather didn't become an issue overall. My son is 34, and as I listen to stories about picture taking in school, I sure wonder what things will be like 10 years from now. (lol) Hugs...and Happy Sunday! RO

  11. I am always sad when I end a season of The Great British Bake Off. WOw those school pictures sound cute like a lot of work. I imagine the younger kids wouldn't be as good with that. Congrats on the new baby!!! Have a great week!

  12. I am so glad that tornado was a no go! That is the only thing I hate about this time of the year. I read the first in the coffeehouse mysteries and enjoyed it, I need to get to book two! :)

    Enjoy your new read!

  16. Congrats on the baby! You school has early dismissal for tornados? Lucky kids. When I was in school, they made us sit in the bathroom or in the gym until the tornados went away. They even kept us after the final bell if there were tornados. Our parents had to come sign us out, or we had to wait until the school said it was safe enough to let us walk home.

  17. Oh congrats to all on the new baby in the family. We'll be welcoming another grand this summer and I can't wait! Glad the tornado skipped your area. We don't get them often up in my area of the upper midwest but I've been through a few and now how scary and damaging they can be. Enjoy your new book and have a lovely week.

  18. Ho'omaka'i on the newest, little addition to your ohana. Glad the tornado was a no-show for your area. I've volunteered for Picture Day with Lifetouch. It can be a bit crazy as some kids look wild after having recess. I combed hair and sprayed down hair + redid ponytails and braids. The benefit was I got to get free pictures for each daughter for volunteering all day.

  25. Congratulations to Eleanor and the rest of the family! A new baby is a blessing. I am ready to move into spring but we can just skip over the whole tornado season in my opinion. Glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Enjoy your new book!

  26. Congratulations on the safe delivery of the baby and I'm really pleased that mum and baby are doing well. And... fingers crossed for the tornado season - it sort of puts my own grumbles by our very late and chilly Spring into context! I hope you have a lovely week:)
