This Week in Reading - February 26

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Dying Breath by Heather Graham - It's the new Krewe of Hunters book and I'm powerless to resist! Plus this one comes out at the end of May which is about the time I'm really loving romantic suspense or other creepy books (NetGalley)

To the Stars Through Difficulties by Romalyn Tilghman - I'm really excited about this one!  Inspired by their foremothers who built fifty-nine Carnegie libraries a century ago four women band together to build a cultural center against opposition.  This one comes out just in time for National Library week and it looks gorgeous!  (Publicist)

Death at First Sight by Lena Gregory - I'm super excited about this one one!  I'm reading the 2nd book for a blog tour next month or so and the form asked if I would want a copy of the first book if available.  I checked yes but wasn't really expecting to get it.  Well it showed up in the mail just a week later!  Really looking forward to starting this series!  (Author)

Currently:

Reading:  Pekoe Most Poison by Laura Childs, Key of Light by Nora Roberts, and One Two Buckle My Shoe by Agatha Christie

Listening:  Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty.  I'm on the fence about this one.  There's a lot I like but there's a few things that just aren't quite working for me.

Watching:  I kind of fell into a true crime rabbit hole this week and have been watching mostly Investigation Discovery shows.  My favorite is Web of Lies about internet related crimes of A Crime to Remember which is about historic-ish crimes.

Off the Blog:

We had a busy weekend and then the Tornado was out of school Monday and Tuesday.  I was really hoping for a catch up week and then a relaxing weekend.  All was going as planned until the school nurse called me Thursday afternoon to say he had a fever of 102!  Well I flew up to school excepting him to be sad and droopy and miserable and while he definitely wasn't feeling well he was also seriously annoyed because he had to leave school and couldn't go back on Friday!  I did finally get him settled and past the fact that he wasn't going to school Friday but he's still not fully on board with the resting concept.  I'm hoping that by Sunday night he's back to his regular self or we'll be heading to the doctor which will mess up his no sick visit ever streak!

Next weekend the local theater here is doing Miss Nelson is Missing and I'm so excited I can barely stand it!  This was one of my absolute favorite books as a child.  I'm torn between reading it to the Tornado before we go so he knows the story or waiting so the story will be a surprise.

I'm so thrilled with the new re-read feature on Goodreads!  I have been wanting one for ages and just finally used it and it worked!  It was so exciting!  As well I'm mixing it up some next week genre-wise.  I've been super cozy mystery heavy lately and I'm glad to have some fiction and romance reviews in with the cozies!  It's been nice mixing up the genres because I've been feeling myself start to slide into a slump and different genres seems to have put the brakes on.  Huge relief!

  1. Dying Breath looks good! Hope the Tornado's feeling better, and enjoy the play. I haven't read a cozy in ages but there's one or to I wouldn't mind getting to. I have a few series I started that I've slacked off on!

    Have a great week!

  2. I miss the Krewe Hunters. I haven't visited with them in so long. I've been wanting to read Serafina and the Black Cloak. I'll be curious to know what you think in the end. Especially what it is that isn't working for you.

I hope Tornado is feeling better. How exciting that you'll get to see Miss Nelson is Missing! I hope it's good. I'm sure it will be.

    Have a great week, Katherine!

  3. The Heather Graham book looks tempting...I need to give her a try!

I hadn't realized about a reread feature on Goodreads...I only recently discovered that a DNF shelf could be added.

I remember how frustrating it was when kids got sick during the school day...the frantic run to pick them up. Hope he feels better soon.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  4. Yes it is great to have the reread feature, I was reading it took quite a bit for them to do, but so worth it for users. Yes mixing up genres does help with the blahs in reading!

  5. I hope Tornado is feeling better! And I guess I'd be torn about reading him the book before taking him to the theatre...but with me, the book almost always wins;)
Your new books look really good, and I hope you'll enjoy them all.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  6. Sorry the Tornado isn't feeling well, but he seems to be handling the sickness alright it sounds, just not the resting? Lol. How awesome that the theatre is doing a play of one of your favorite childhood books! That sounds like it would be so much fun! I'm also loving the GR reread feature! I even reread some books this past week, so it's coming in handy for sure :-P

  7. I hope the Tornado feels better today. I haven't read any Heather Graham but I always feel like I should. I hear so many good things.

  8. First of all, hope your kiddo's illness is quickly gone. And I love Miss Nelson - I'd not read it to him and let him catch the surprise. LOL

I'm trying to remember what ONE TWO BUCKLE MY SHOE was about. Need to go check. I know I've read it. Have a good week!

  9. It's always awful when our babes are sick, hoping your son is back to school soon.
I am not familiar with the Goodreads Reread feature, must go check it out!

  11. The Krewe is my favorite series by Heather. I'll read those as long as she keeps reading them. Hope the Tornado feels himself soon and you have fun with all of your plans. I somehow missed the reread thing on Goodreads. Need to check that out.

  12. I hope your son feels better soon and doesn't have to go to the doctor.

To the Stars Through Difficulties sounds interesting. I will have to order a copy for my library. I haven't tried that new feature on Goodreads yet but I'm glad we have that option now since I do like to reread books sometimes.

Hope you have a fantastic week and enjoy the play.

  13. It's funny everyone is like oh I am so excited there is a reread feature on goodreads now and I was like oh that is why it has multiple read dates cause I am like why do I need that I am only reading it once....see I don't do much rereading...lol.

Had to drop everything and grab Dying Breath...love that series! :)

    Have a great week!

  18. Oh dear, I do hope the Tornado soon recovers - I hated it when the children were ill and it doesn't get any better when the grandchildren are poorly, either... Have a better week, Katherine.

  20. Don't laugh, but I was going to take a break from Graham. Then an audio pub, sent a list of audios up for review. It had the second book in her new series..and darn if I didn't request it and book one. I might as well just go snag the new Krewe too! Bwahaha.

  21. I hope your poor little guy feels better. Nothing worse than being so sick. I can't believe he hasn't had to go to the Dr. for being sick yet. What a great streak. I am really excited to see that Goodreads finally got their act together and added the re-read feature! Enjoy all of your new books!

  22. Poor Tornado! At least it's great to know he's loving school! I am glad Goodreads finally added the re-read feature. While I don't do a lot of re-reading, I do re-read some books with my students each year.

  23. I seriously need to start the Krewe of Hunters series. Poor Tornado! Hope he's feeling better.

  24. That pioneering library book sounds good; added that to my TBR. Kids are SO resilient. If I had a fever of 102°, I'd have fainted and would be so uncomfortable and feeling miserable once I woke up.

  25. I didn't play well with Serafina and the Black Cloak. I really thought it was too scary and too mature for MG. I think it would have been better as a YA. I hope the Tornado ended up being well on Monday. I love that you have been taking him to live theater. It is a wonderful thing to grow up with. I hope you are having a terrific week. :)

  26. Hope the Tornado is back up and going to school this week! :-) Hope you're able to get some stuff done this week. I've not been interested in Serafina, sorry to hear it's not working for you though. Thanks for visiting my Sunday Post at Lisa Loves Literature earlier!
