Murder on Wheels - Blog Tour Review + Giveaway

Murder on Wheels (Tourist Trap Mystery #6) by Lynn Cahoon
Rating:Very Good
Source: Blog Tour
Description:  The food truck craze has reached charming coastal town of South Cove, California, but before Jill Gardner - owner of Coffee, Books, and More - can sample the eats, she has to shift gears and put the brakes on the killer...
Now that Kacey Austin has got her new gluten-free dessert truck up and running, there's no curbing her enthusiasm - not even when someone vandalizes the vehicle and steals her recipes.  But when Kacey turns up dead on the beach and Jill's best friend Sadie becomes the prime suspect, Jill needs to step on it to serve the real killer some just desserts.  (From Goodreads)

Genre: Mystery

Why I Picked This Book:  This is a series I really enjoy and the last book gave a hint about this book so I couldn't wait to pick this one!

My Impression:  This series is just getting stronger!  I've really enjoyed this series from the beginning but I feel like this one and the previous book (Killer Run) were especially good.
These are characters I really enjoy catching up with.  I love Jill and Greg as well as Sasha, Toby, Amy, Justin, Sadie, and Nick.  I liked the curve ball thrown into Jackie's personal life and I'm hoping we see more of Harrold in the future.
The mystery itself was strong and not over powered by the side plots.  I had a pretty good idea of the who early on in the story but no idea as to the how and the why so it was fun to watch it all come together.  Cahoon did a good job of incorporating Kacey's friends into the world of South Cove without it feeling too forced.  I loved getting a little more backstory who has been a bit of a shadowy figure in the last few books.
And the food!  Because Sadie is more involved in the investigation and the story itself Jill visits her house where she's always baking something - brownies, muffins,or one of her amazing cheesecakes.  This series always makes me want a good cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake but this one took that up a notch!  I alternately wanted rich chocolate brownies and blueberry crumb muffins but always cheesecake!  Do yourself a favor and make (I recommend  this recipe from Plain Chicken) yourself one or buy yourself a slice of your favorite.  That way you can concentrate on the story and not all the yummy-ness!
This is a fun cozy mystery series with likable characters - and several characters who are readers!-  and while it's probably better to start from the beginning I think you could just jump in with this one.

  1. Geez, Katherine, now all I an think about is cheesecake! I made a peach pie yesterday so I better hold off on more sweets! But that cheesecake is still in my head.

  2. I saw this one over at Stormi's earlier this week. It looks fun (plus food truck!) Nice to hear the mystery is strong and I love the sound of a place called Coffee, Books and More.

Nice cover too- like the beach and the groovy mobile! :)

  5. I like the idea of characters in the book actually baking and cooking. In Agatha Christie, known for her food scenes, Miss Marple didn't seem to make her own tea, just sample it discretely. Nor did Hercule Poirot. This is a waay updated approach to a mystery solver.

  14. Sounds like fun! I prefer brownies to cheesecake, but am not allowed to have either as I have been indulging in some highly decadent hot chocolate this weekend. Thanks for the giveaway and congratulations to the author for getting a good series going!

  17. I enjoyed this one, too. And yes, I like the direction things are going with Jackie and Harrold... and have my suspicions about what might happen with Toby. (Fingers crossed!) But oh, gosh, I'm making muffins or cookies and buying a cheesecake before I read the next book!
