It's Sunday so time to link up with Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer for The Sunday Post where we can talk about what we got and what's going on!
What I Got:
Not the Killing Type by Lorna Barrett - this is part of her booktown mystery series which features a town full of bookstores. It's a fun series and I love the idea of so many bookstores! (from paperbackswap.com)
If Catfish Had Nine Lives by Paige Shelton - another cozy series. I've read the first one and have at least the next 2 in addition to this one. It involves a cooking school. She has a farmer's market series that I've enjoyed as well. (from paperbackswap)

Currently:
Reading: Just finished Louisiana Fever by D.J. Donaldson which I really enjoyed (review Wed) and am reading Going Home by Stacy Finz and should be starting The Question of the Missing Head by E.J. Copperman next.
Listening: Finished Lissette's List by Susan Vreeland which ended up being wonderful. I'm now listening to The Lost Art of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister which I'm loving though maybe not quite as much as the first in the series.
Watching: I've been slowly catching up on shows. I enjoyed NCIS: New Orleans. I was a little worried they'd go over the top with the accent but they did okay. I also enjoyed How to Get Away With Murder, Modern Family, The Middle and regular NCIS. The CSI premiere didn't do much for me but I did enjoy it so I'm hoping it will improve. I'm still 2 weeks behind on Doctor Who but I'm catching up slowly but surely! PBS had a special called The Mystery of Agatha Christie which was hosted by David Suchet and was absolutely wonderful.
Off the Blog:
Fall break starts tomorrow and we'll be spend some of that time in south Mississippi at my grandparents. They have some property so we'll be running around with their various dogs (they end up with all the dogs people dump including a St. Bernard/Mastiff mix who is possibly the biggest but sweetest dog I've ever seen) and tromping through the woods. Emma and Paul will most likely be dashing around on 4 wheelers and spending some time at the river that borders their property. Definitely looking forward to it! Unfortunately Eleanor won't be able to go but we'll have enough fun to make up her share. Next week I'll have pictures of Paul and his llama and from vacation - just a few. I'll try not to overload you.
Emma had car troubles this week that thankfully J was able to get fixed quickly. I think I was more upset than she was about her car potentially being out of commission for a few days. I do not want to get back into the taking them to school and her to work business!
I managed to throw my back out Monday much to J's amusement. He's 10 years older than I am and his back is in much better shape. To be fair this is only time it's happened but it's not much fun. Luckily it's mostly better now though the Tornado gave a great demonstration of how I was walking.
The tornado sirens went off at 3AM the other night and the only reason I heard them is because I was up letting the cat in. Otherwise I'm sure we would've slept straight through. Now my phone goes berserk if there's a flash flood warning 2 counties over but a tornado warning in the same part of the county that I'm actually in? Silence. Made a mental note to replace the batteries in the weather radio as tornado season is approaching. Luckily there was no damage anywhere.

I liked NCIS: New Orleans, but I love Scott. I am curious about Lissette's List. Glad the car wasn't a big issue, enjoy your fall break with the grandparent. Have a lovely week Katherine!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We had a great week! I love Scott too - I was excited when I saw he was going to be part of the NCIS franchise.
DeleteYay! I love dogs! Hope you'll have fun.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine:
My Week in a Wrapped #2
Thanks! We had a lovely time.
DeleteI like the book cover. Maybe I'll try to browse about it later. Have a great week, Katherine.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed this series so far. Looking forward to trying this one!
DeleteHave a nice week!:D here's mine http://ofbooksandbookthoughts.blogspot.com/2014/10/sunday-post-october-5.html
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was lovely!
DeleteTornado sirens?! Oh that sounds scary. :| I used to get cyclones ALL the time where I lived, but then we moved and it's been bliss not having to worry about them. My new town gets floods though. >_< Gah. Can't win.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post!
You get used to them. Cyclones sounds way scarier! And yes I think every place has it's flaws. The trick is finding the ones that bother you the least.
DeleteI like the idea of the Hard to Read books post: My hardest would be Godel Escher Bach - which I never got through, and I would have to look at some in my library that I have never finished to figure them out. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Godel Escher Bach though it definitely sounds like a challenge!
DeleteHave fun on break! Tromping the woods and 4 wheelers sounds like a lotta fun. We haven't seen any of the new shows yet, but hopefully this week that will change. Already behind... sigh. We need to catch up...
ReplyDeleteHope you get to do some catch up. I've been loving the new shows though I watch far to many!
DeleteFall break sounds fun! Sorry to hear about your back. I have back problems and they suck. That is odd your phone didn't go off with a tornado warning, poor system.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are an evil woman, I added the cozies to my wishlist. :D
LOL! I try! The system definitely strikes me as not well done. None of us were alerted to the tornado warning which basically makes it useless.
DeleteSounds like a lovely time for all in Mississippi. Have fun! I have some minor issues with my lower back due to work. I'm glad yours is better.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest worry about weather is hurricanes and it looks like we'll be lucky again this year. The season is almost over and have't had any. I'd definitely be getting a supply of batteries! My phone has given me Amber Alerts but no tornado warnings.
That cozy is calling to me:)
Here is my Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/10/05/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-81-and-the-sunday-post/
Thanks! The back is all better and we had a lovely time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a smooth remainder to hurricane season.
DeleteY'all get fall break? we get a week for thanksgiving, but that's it. I love the idea of a town full of bookstores... buyt how do they make any sort of money? Unless each bookstore only sells one genre... hehehe
ReplyDeleteSarah @ One Curvy Blogger
We got one for years and then they took it away and we just got it back. It's really lovely. The financial issues are slightly addressed and it is kind of a tourist destination but it's one of those places that could probably never exist in real life. Each store does specialize in a genre which helps a bit too.
DeleteI'm glad you are going on a trip to the grandparents! That sounds like a fun place for you, and the kids. I am adding the names of your cozies to my wishlist now; thanks for the tip,
ReplyDeleteI can commiserate about car trouble (my son finally got his own but we had been driving him up to our house, way too much) and I am disabled and have a bad back so half the time I walk like a crab, making me look about 50 years older than I am. And my husband is 8 years older and he can walk better than I do :)
Have a great week!
Thanks we had a lovely time! The back thing is definitely not fair! The Tornado was doing an imitation of my walking which was pretty funny.
DeleteYou've featured some nice mysteries and cozies amongst your reads. I like those, especially this time of year as the weather turns cooler because they are perfect for curling up and reading.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time away--sounds like a fun trip.
My Sunday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/10/weekly-book-recap-84.html
Thanks! We had a great time! I do love a good cozy as the weather gets cooler too!
DeleteOh, I can relate to throwing out the back! It doesn't take much for me...and all I did was pull a light box off a top shelf in the garage....and then I wanted to blame the flu shot I had the day before...LOL.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are in for some fun with your family...enjoy!
Thanks for visiting my blog, enjoy your books, and I love the idea of a town full of bookstores.
I never injure myself doing anything fun it's always housework type stuff! We had a great time on vacation. Doesn't a town full of bookstores sound fun!
DeleteOuch! Sorry to hear about your back trouble. My sister and brother both have problems with their backs, but luckily I have avoided it so far. Have a great time on your trip - it sounds wonderful, and a St. Bernard/Mastiff mix must be huge and drool a lot, but must have the sweetest disposition!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to head over to audible and listen to a sample of Lissette's List. Have a great week!
He's absolutely enormous but definitely has the sweetest disposition. I enjoyed listening to Lissette's List. It definitely got me through some parts that I think would've been slow to read.
DeleteHave fun on your trip! And I hope you enjoy your books.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI cannot imagine what it is like living in tornado areas! I don't get much of that in Aus!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby says that he is going to be the fittest out of the two of us and that he'll be pushing my wrinkly butt around in a wheel chair... I am determined to NEVER let that happen! lol
Thanx for visiting My Weekly Wrap-Up!
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
You get kind of used to the tornado thing. People either tend to go over the top paranoid about it or are completely underwhelmed by the whole thing. The few actual ones we've been through are not fun though.
DeleteLOL on what your husband said. That sounds like something mine would say!
Yikes on the tornado warning! We live in MI and get warnings occasionally as well-always gets my heart going lol.
ReplyDeleteWe get them a lot so it's hard to get particularly excited about them. The few actual ones we've been through have not been fun though!
DeleteI'm slowly getting through my recorded TV shows, too. I liked NCIS: New Orleans and How To Get Away With Murder.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you liked Louisiana Fever. I look forward to reading your review.
I read the first book in Lorna Barrett's series, loved it, but never had a chance to read more. I have to catch up with that series.
Have a great week!
I've gotten so behind in my paperback reading as well. I like the Lorna Barrett series but it's not my favorite. Still a town full of bookstores? Can't resist!
DeleteBeing out of town definitely got me behind in my shows but I'll be catching up this week!
Sorry to hear about your back. Hope you have a great fall break, and that you enjoy your books - they both sound interesting and fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The back was annoying but got better quickly and the rest of everything was such fun!
DeleteA town full off bookstores sounds like an original setting! That would be an awesoem palce to go shopping!
ReplyDeleteTornado season sounds scary, I hope you'l stay safe. Havea fun weekend at your grandparents!
Doesn't it! Each store focuses on a specific genre. I'm not sure I could ever leaver!
DeleteTornado season is more annoying than scary unless we actually get one and then that's not fun!
A town full of bookstores sounds wonderful! I can see why you got Not the Killing Type.
ReplyDeleteI like How to Get Away With Murder, but I am thinking I need to watch that show when I am not so distracted. It might be a show I save for the summer.
I hope you have a wonderful fall break, Katherine! Can you believe it was in the triple digits where I live this past weekend? So much for fall!
I hope your back is feeling better!
I hope you have a great week!
We were in the 90s while we were in south Mississippi with humidity in the 80% range so it definitely didn't feel like fall but definitely not triple digits! I'm liking How to Get Away with Murder too though it is definitely one you really have to pay attention with!
DeleteI hope your back is feeling better soon, you enjoy your trip away and your new books.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Thanks! It's all better and we had a great time!
DeleteMy parents now have a tornado siren right.outside.the house. Actually, since my brother built next door it's outside both their houses. The gubermint couldn't put it a few hundred feet down the road, oh no. That made too much sense. I'm surprised it doesn't break their windows when it goes off. Yeesh.
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine the level of noise that must be! Luckily all of ours are at fire stations so not right next to any homes. With as often as they go off here that'd be enough to send you over the edge!
DeleteI love cozy mysteries and that looks like a cute one. I hope you feel better soon and enjoy your trip. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy reading.
