What I Got:
I think most people who know me would be surprised since I'm not particularly whimsical but I love fairy gardens. I fully intend to make it a hobby when I have more time for hobbies! This looks like a really fun book to page through.
Forbidden Ground by Karen Harper
As we get closer to Fall I find myself reaching more and more to mysteries and this romantic suspense sounds fun.
Teardrop Lane by Emily March
I really enjoyed the previous book in this serious that I read and really enjoyed the characters that this book will focus on.
At Home with Madame Chic by Jennifer L. Scott
This sounds like it may be what I wanted How to Be a Parisian Wherever You Are to be. It's supposed to be full of tips to be stylish and have a happy relaxing home. We'll see.
Currently:
Reading: Louise's Blunder by Sarah R. Shaber which I'm really enjoying so far. It's a mystery set in World War 2 Washington DC with a dash of espionage. Also, a biography about Coco Chanel called Mademoiselle by Rhonada K. Garelick which I'm not enjoying nearly as much. It's not bad just not flowing as well as I would like. And of course, Poirot Investigates by Agatha Christie.
Listening: Finishing up Lisette's List by Susan Vreeland which I have absolutely fallen in love with. Next up is Sleeping Beauty and Other Classic Stories by Jacob Grimm followed by The Lost Art of Mixing by Erica Bauermeister.
Watching: Not as much as I wanted to especially of the new releases. I have NCIS: New Orleans and How to Get Away With Murder on my DVR but haven't had time to watch them yet. I did watch the new Big Bang Theory which I enjoyed even though I'm not really loving Penny's hair. We're still watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and I'm still watching CSI: New York which I'm enjoying. I had forgotten what a good job they had done with Danny and Lindsay's relationship. It's enough to be interesting but not enough to distract from the show. I did watch Sleepy Hollow which I loved last season but it's been off air so long I had kind of forgotten about it. I really enjoyed the premier for that one. Can't wait to see where they go this season!

Off the Blog:
This has been kind of a crap week. Nothing particularly awful just one little stress after another leaving me frazzled and short tempered. Thinking about digging up a favorite book and trying to do a mood reboot since obviously being frazzled and short tempered doesn't really help any situation.
Paul has been working at McDonald's for almost a year now and seems to have finally burned out on the food. We decided to try and recreate his old favorites from there in a homemade version. This week was Big Macs which turned out really amazingly good. Not sure what we're going to do next. It's his birthday this week and we're going to do our usual going to dinner at his choice and then cake and presents. He's always been the worst about getting me a list of actual things he wants for his birthday but this year I threatened to give him an all llama birthday if he didn't. Years ago he got spit on by a llama at a petting zoo and has never quite forgiven them. The threat worked though I did find a little llama figurine to give him just for fun.
Other than that not much going on. Eleanor's still enjoying her classes and working at a bookstore, She even was here for dinner one night this week since she had to be in town for an appointment before heading back to college. Emma still shows up at home every once in awhile for about 5 minutes before she breezes out. We're still waiting for acceptance letters from the colleges she applied too. Logically I know there won't be any problems but illogically I still worry. The Tornado is still loving school and being tornado-y.

DeleteSounds like you got some good things to read this week, I really need to try some Agatha Christie. I watched NCIS: NO and it was pretty good. I am so excited to see Scott Bakula in a TV show again. :) I love Sleepy Hollow and watched the new show before it Gotham and it's not to bad. I was so ticked off at Bones!!! I have How to Get Away with Murder on my DVR aslo but haven't had time to check it out. :) I love Fall preview time. :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely try Agatha Christie! And Then There Were None is not to be missed and her short stories are excellent. I liked NCIS: NO and was excited about Scott Bakula too! We gave up on Bones a few seasons ago but from what I heard I'm definitely annoyed as well!

DeleteI don't watch any tv live - everything gets taped on my DVR. I finally got to watch How To Get Away With Murder yesterday and loved it!!! In fact, I might actually watch it again to make sure I got everything! Can't wait to hear what you think about it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a better week this week. I go through weeks like that...nothing big, just little annoyances that add up to create a crappy weekend overall. I love the idea of pulling out a favorite book to make you feel better - will have to remember that for next time. That and a good cuppa tea should definitely make things better!

Absolutely nothing was working for me and I didn't want to work with anything! I normally read horror or dystopian so I read a romance that was cute, flirty, and really short and that totally worked for me! Hope you find your reboot method soon! :D Have a great week!

I enjoyed How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal is on my to watch list but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm excited about Forbidden Ground and Teardrop Lane. I really enjoyed the last Emily March book I read and I liked meeting the characters that this book focuses on.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the others in the Louise's Blunder series but I don't think it affected my understanding of the series. I like Penny's hair but to me it just doesn't gel with her character.
DeleteI worked at McDonalds for like 3 years. I actually had fun working there but I was also a teen and all my friends worked there I am soooo excited about TV shows being back. I have debated on whether or not to do a monthly TV post on the blog. It might be fun.. but more work so I don't know yet. Have a good week!

DeleteI loved Big Ban Theory's premiere but I also don't like Penny's new hair cut. That style is cute but it doesn't look right on her. But anyways that llama story is funny!! That's a great way to motivate him to tell you what he wants for his birthday. Sorry to hear you are stressed but I totally understand. Work has been stressful and I escape from it by reading a book. So hopefully both our weeks will be better. Have a great week!!

Every Saturday night in our house is 'Burger Dad's/Mum's' where we make our own versions of take out food. I even bought plastic baskets for them to have it in. The kids love it,e specially the burgers.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad your son had a happy birthday! But surprised it took him a year to get tired of McDonald's food. I worked as an asst. manager there for a year over 20 years ago, and I think I've eaten there only once or twice since.
Sorry to hear you've had a rough and frazzled week. Re-reading an old favorite sounds like just the thing. (At any rate, it usually works for me!) And watching old favorites, too - I tend to turn to things like the Joan Hickson Miss Marple series when I'm stressed out. Also Winnie the Pooh. Anyway, I hope this week is going better for you.
