So after a few quiet weeks on the whole book acquiring front things picked up this week.
Her Cowboy Hero by Tanya Michaels - I don't have a cowboy weakness but this book about a woman who is trying to turn her ranch into a B&B interested me.
People I Want to Punch in the Throat by Jen Mann - I follow Jen Mann's blog and thought this sounded like a fun read.
The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith - I've been dying to read this every time I see it on everyone else's blogs so I was thrilled to have a chance to pick this one up this week.
Writing in the Kitchen edited by David A. Davis and Tara Powell - This is a book about Southern food in literature
Conversations with Steve Martin edited by Robert E. Kapsis - A collection of interviews with Steve Martin.
Deadly Assets by Wendy Tyson- This mystery about 2 women who had nothing in common but disappeared on the same day sounds interesting. Plus I love a good mystery!
Other:
Emma talked me into going to a local used bookstore yesterday where I managed to pick up only 3 books for myself. I've introduced her to the early Patricia Cornwall books and she's flown through the first 2 and was looking for #3. It's fun when your kids start reading books that you've read or are reading.

Death at Devil's Bridge by Robin Paige - These were the 3 I picked up at the used bookstore. They're all by authors I've really enjoyed in the past but for some reason haven't picked up in awhile.
An Expert in Murder by Nicole Upson - This is a mystery with the mystery author Josephine Tey as the detective. I'm really excited about this one!
The Collector by Nora Roberts - This is Roberts' newest hardback and I was excited when I was able to get it in e-book form right before we leave for the beach. Definitely #1 on my TBR this trip!

This Coming Week:
I will be preparing to go out of town, out of town or recovering from being out of town for this week so I won't be able to reply to comments or visit blogs like I like to do. Moving 6 people to the beach for a few days feels like coordinating the move for a small army. I'm just glad the older kids are old enough to get their stuff together and that the Tornado is no longer so little that he requires tons of specialized stuff.
However thanks to the fun ability to schedule posts I have this week laid out already:

Getting a family out the door for a trip IS like moving an army, even when the kids are old enough to pack themselves. Mom still has to make sure every one's clothes are clean to pack, the kids pack everything they need, figure out how to fit it all into the car...By the time we get on the road I'm more than ready for a vacation! Have fun!

How great that your daughter is reading books you liked! I wish I could get my stepson to read books I liked - he does comics, and I'm glad he's reading, but it would be fun to share with him. Enjoy your time at the beach, I'm jealous!

I am very very jealous that you will be going on a beach vacation. Sometimes I get bummed living in a landlocked state. Though I do love Colorado. The Geography of You and Me has always looked good to me too. I look forward to you getting back from the beach. This week I am just getting back to visiting blogs and commenting myself since I was busy on a trip and then with family myself. Have fun!!

My Mum gave me two of Nicola Upson's books to read as she really enjoyed them. She didn't think they were as good as Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher series though. I'm interested to see what you make of them.

ReplyDeleteTalking about early Patricia Cornwell. I remember picking up and reading the first Kay Scarpetta novel Postmortem in early 90's (1990/1991 not sure) and thinking: actually, this is really good, I think I will read more from this author and she will do well. Ha, I think I was right :)
