Murder of a Mail-Order Bride - Cozy Mystery Review

Goodreads: Murder of a Mail-Order Bride (Love is Murder #2) by Mimi Granger

Rating:  Really Liked It! (4 Stars)
Source:  Publisher

Description:   Lizzie Hale thought mail-order brides existed only between the pages of the historical romances she stocks in her bookstore, Love Under the Covers. But when not one, but two local men introduce her to their respective new wives, she's forced to reevaluate that notion.

Lizzie is surprised when Al Little, the owner of the local hardware store, asks Lizzie and her aunt Charmaine to help Svetlana, his new bride straight from Russia, to settle into Tinker's Creek, but they agree.

Everything is going swimmingly—until a wrench gets thrown into their plans when Svetlana is found drowned in the creek.

With Al's suspicious best friend—who has his own mysterious mail-order bride—and the secretive matchmaker who put them together, Lizzie's got more suspects than she knows what to do with. But she'll have to nail down who the killer is fast, before someone else winds up dead.

Genre: Mystery - Cozy

Why I Picked This Book:  I enjoyed the first book in this series and I loved the sound of this one.

My Impression:  I enjoyed the first book in this series but I really felt like the series gained momentum in this second book.  Things get going pretty quickly as Svetlana arrives within the first chapter or two and it becomes clear that there she is bringing some secrets with her.

I love a mystery where things aren't what they seem and secrets abound and this was a fun one!  Tinker's Creek is a quirky community with some interesting characters.  I love the fact that Lizzie owns a romance book store and isn't a mystery reader.  It's a bit different from the usual cozy mystery bookish character.   We also spend a decent amount of time in Lizzie's head as she contemplates her love life - or what there is of it.  The mystery wasn't the hardest to figure out but it was fun getting to the solution and I'm looking forward to my next visit to Tinker's Creek.

Would I Read More of this Series/Author?  Definitely!  I really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to seeing how this series develops.

Would I Recommend this Book?  If you enjoy quirky cozy mysteries this is a fun read and one you can pick up without reading the first book in the series.

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review.  As always my opinions and impressions are completely my own. *

  1. I've read a lot of mail-order bride romances, but never a mystery where the bride in question gets murdered. This cozy does sound like fun. :)
