Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - October 17

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Nothing!  I'm feeling a book shopping binge coming so I doubt next week will be an empty shelf but this week was.

Currently:

Reading: Murder at Mallowan Hall by Colleen Cambridge and The Brading Collection by Patricia Wentworth

Listening: Hideaway by Nora Roberts

WatchingStill watching Friends.  I'm almost to season 5 now. Ross is the worst but other then that I'm really enjoying it.

Most of this week was really great.  Now that Will's getting the proper number of calories his energy is so much improved.  The Physical Therapist at clinic was amazed by his energy level and we got a visit from our very favorite therapy dog which always makes for a good hospital visit.  The end of the week has not been so good because of side effects from the steroids.  He's only on them for 5 days but it's a long 5 days and there's some recovery time on the other side.  We hate seeing him not feeling well but we have hope that we will be back in a good place by next weekend.

I'm not sure if it was the weather or stress or just bad luck but I got hit hard with migraines at the end of the week and was kind of MIA.  I'm feeling better though just a bit tired.  I'm getting some reading done and really enjoying my books.  I did get some energy and go to the Trader Joe's that just opened here.  We went to the one in Memphis all the time when we were there but since we moved back I've missed it!  Do you have any favorite/must buy treats from Trader Joe's?

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. I've never been to a Trader Joe's but I wish we had one. Ergh. I'd probably spend hours in there. :)

Hope will is feeling better soon. Yay for the therapy dog! And wishing you guys a good week :)

  2. Trader Joe's is dangerous to my waistline. I do my biggest shopping of the week there after church on Sunday, so I'll be there in a few hours.

  3. Sorry you got hit with migraines. Not nice for sure. Great that the feeding tube has been such a success. Hope steroid time will go quickly. You definitely deserve some book buying therapy. Trader Joe's is a mystery to me but sounds fun.

  4. Aww, I'm glad Will got to spend time with his favorite dog! We don't have a Trader Joe's here, so I've never been to one, but there are rumors that we're getting one. I'm excited to see what the hype is about.

  5. Ooh, migraines are the worst! I hope they're over now and stay away.

I am glad Will feels better and eats more...except for those days after chemo. Sending positive thoughts!

    Enjoy your books...I'm eyeing Hideaway.

  6. Hope your migraines are gone --allergies are still big here as no frost yet. I hope Will has a good week too. Our Trader Joe's is 40 min away but, we try to go there once a month as there are so many automatic buys for us. For me it's their San Francisco style sliced sourdough bread which I love toasted, as well as their frozen spicy Thai shrimp and rice, organic raspberry jam, bagged nuts, sliced dill pickles, olive oil and salt popcorn, and several different teas to name a few things. My husband always sneaks in 2 boxes of Maple Leaf cookies and then complains when he gains a few pounds LOL

    Have a good week.

  7. The Murder at Mallowan Hall's cover looks great and makes me curious about it! Glad Will got his calories up and energy going, bummer he is feeling bad because of the meds. Hope he bounces back real quick!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  8. I love the cover for 'The Murder at Mallowan Hall' as well, that's a stunning blue! Yay for therapy dogs but boo for migraines and sideeffects, I hope you all feel a bit better by next weekend and can enjoy those Trader Joe snacks! I've heard so much about Trader Joe that I'm definitely going to have to go when I make it to the US for a visit! I hope you have a lovely week ahead :)

  9. We used to go to Trader JOe's a lot when we leaved in California (years ago now!), but haven't been to one for a long time. The ones near us are a ways away, but now that you mention it I want to make a trip one of these days, Katherine!

I'm glad Will had a good week and sorry the steroids cause problems. I hope he feels better soon. And so good they have therapy dogs at the hospital.

I hope you read lots of good books this week.

  11. Trader joes is fantastic! We have them all over the place down here. They have great cheeses, great wines, great packaged meals. I don't go often though because they don't have curb side pickup and I really try not to go into stores these days since COVID.

I'm sorry the steroids are so rough for Will, I hope he's over the rough patch soon. And I hope your migraines pass quickly, they really are the worst. Happy book shopping!!

  12. I've only been once to a Trader Joe's, there isn't one close to me. Hope your migraines go away. Looks like the therapy dog was a hit! I know what you mean about feeling a book shopping spree coming in. I'm in the mood as well!

  13. I hope you'll be feeling better. I love Trader Joes! I went to them in MN and now in NC too. They have some great gluten free products if that is of interest. I used to get their prepackaged salads for work lunch often. I buy all my nuts there mainly walnuts, almonds, pecans.

  14. Aw man look at the big smile for the doggo! What good medicine for him. :) I am glad to hear that he has more energy, that is huge. I hope he gets past the steroid ick soon.

And Trader Joes! I need to go. It has been way way too long.

  16. I hope things improve quickly for Will once this round of steroids is over. (((((((HUGS)))))))

I feel really bad about your migraines. 😔 I haven't had one in about 25 years, but I can remember the pain and nausea like it was yesterday. They have such a brutal impact. More (((((((HUGS)))))))

Have a wonderful, and easier, new week. 🌞

  17. We finally had a TJ's open near us during the pandemic, but I haven't even visited yet. Thanks for reminding me... I'll mask up and head over early some morning when it's fairly quiet.

Hope Will's steroid side effects are over quickly and I'm sorry to hear you had a rough time with migraines. Stress seems to trigger them for me, but the change of seasons (at least in NY) seemed to be a factor, too. Hope you can rest up this week.

  18. I am glad you are enjoying Friends still. It's a very addicting show. :-) I hope you are enjoying your current reads. I have my eye on Murder at Mallowan Hall and hope to read it at some point. I am sorry to hear you've been hit with the migraines again. I hope you are feeling much better now and they stay away. Prayers to Will and your family.

  20. Murder at Mallowan Hall has been on my radar. I will be interested to hear what you think of it.

Sorry to hear you have had migraines, that is not fun. I hope Will's recovery time from the steroids is short. That therapy dog is adorable!

We love the peanut butter from Trader Joe's. Not really a treat, but something we look forward to getting when we get a chance to visit one.

    Have a great week!

  22. That is such a great photo of Will with the therapy dog. A dog can brighten your day 🤗 I’m always so impressed with how he handles the treatment and bounces back.

We like Trader Joe’s and have bought the orange chicken for stir fry’s, it’s frozen and easy to make. The potstickers are good too. Doug loves the fig bars, those cereal bars also come in apple and strawberry. There are these cinnamon sour cream muffins near the bread section that are amazing! They are gluten free so we almost didn’t try them but oh man.... so. Good.
