Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - October 31

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

The Missing Sister by Lucinda Riley - I just finished the previous book in this series and immediately went to purchase an audio of this one. I can't wait to see the characters from previous books again. (Purchased)

Currently:

Reading:  Miss Moriarty, I Presume? by Sherry Thomas and Q's Legacy by Helene Hanff

Listening:  A Dark and Twisting Path by Julia Buckley

This was the scene around our house this week.  We keep my dad's dog some during the week to help get us and the cat ready for getting a puppy later this year (and I just like having the dog around).  The dog who has never really seen a cat before thinks he and the cat should be friends.  The cat does not want to be friends.  The dog is confused and the cat enjoys bullying the dog and it's just this endless cycle.  Will is enjoying it very much.

Speaking of Will he's been feeling pretty good this week now that  he's caught up on sleep from the steroids.  They've upped his chemo levels which has upped his nausea but thankfully the overnight meals through the NG tube are really helping keep his energy up and not having a constantly empty stomach helps him feeling a bit more steady. He's decided to skip Halloween this year so we are going to hang out at home and maybe play a video game and eat some candy.

My yearly chest cold has come back.  I had pneumonia a few years ago around this time and it seems like ever since right around this time I get sick again though not quite as seriously.  I got a lot of rest the last few days and am feeling better but I still have an awful cough and just super low energy.  So needless to say we haven't done anything particularly interesting this week!  We did get all the furniture set up in the school room and I'm hoping to get all books and stuff moved in this week and then buy the rest of the odds and ends.  It's exciting to have a dedicated space for school and even Will is excited about using it.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. That is such a cute pic. The dog looks very much like he wants to make friends, and the cat is being, well... cat- ish lol! And glad that Will is feeling good.

Hope you feel better soon as well!

I love the look of the Sherry Thomas series and have been thinking for a while now about trying those.

  2. My mother reminded me I get sick around this time every year. Thankfully I haven't had a bout of pneumonia in a few years. The dog and cat story made me giggle. I don't know who to feel sorry for - the dog or the cat. Glad to hear Will had a good week. I have the audio of Miss Moriarty, I Presume? and hope to dive into it soon.

  3. Hope you enjoy The Missing Sister, I didn't like the NZ accent but apart from that good, except gotta wait for the actual ending in the next one. Hope the chest cold improves - no fun for sure. The school room sounds wonderful.

  4. Sorry to hear you are fighting off a cold. I always get one as soon as the weather starts to turn cold in the fall (or cold for us in So Cal) and again when it first warms up in the spring. (I usually get a few others in the winter as well.)

  5. That’s a good looking dog but I think Comet doesn’t want to get to know him. It takes time but we adjusted to two dogs with the 3 cats that were already in residence.
Glad Will is feeling better and sorry to hear you’ve got a cold. Sending you some Florida warmth!

  7. I hope your cat adjusts to having a dog around before the puppy arrives! I'm sorry you're not feeling well (and I hope it's just a cold, and doesn't turn into pneumonia.) I'm sorry, too, that Will is feeling nauseous again, but glad that the feeding tube is helping.

I look forward to your thoughts on Miss Moriarty, I Presume? I am so behind on that series!

  8. Ooh we're about to introduce a puppy to my cat as well, let's see how that goes! I hope Will continues to feel a bit better and more grounded with the overnight meals. Fingers crossed you feel better soon too! I hope you have a great week ahead :)

  9. OMG I love your cat and dog adventures. Our dog was similar and went to stay at the groomers who had both cat and dogs for a weekend (Gina, not Lulu - this is 15 years ago) The groomer told us that Gina kept looking at the cats like - What are those things and why are they here? She loved running in the farm field and kept trying to get the older dogs to play with her.

I'm glad Will is feeling better. I used to get sick every October when the furnace came on but it was dust and mold allergies. I spent at least 15 years living in only homes with radiators to stay well. Then I got allergy meds and now can live with forced air HVAC.

I LOVED Miss Moriarty, hope you do too!

  10. One of my daughter's dogs is the same way with my cat. The dog never figures out that the cat isn't playing!

So glad this is a good week for Will. And the schoolroom getting set up sounds great. I'm glad that Will is excited about it, too.

I hope your chest cold goes away soon and that you all have a great week.

  12. Hi Katherine! WE MISS YOU!!!!!!!

Haven't spoken to you in weeks. Glad to hear you guys are at home and I love the cat and dog story. When they all live together for some time, it becomes better. We are also taking care of my in-laws' little Maltese and she drives all the cats crazy. Especially Elza who doesn't like to share the main lime-light at all!

I've already read The Missing Sister and now I have to wait for the last one. Pa Atlas I think...?? Let me know when you are done with The Missing Sister, I have a few thoughts.

Miss Moriatry, Presume? sounds really good. Will take a look!

Take care of yourself and lots of love to Wil!

  13. Very cute picture of Will watching the dog and cat. How CUTE is the intent look on the dog's face???

So sorry you're sick with a miserable chest cold. Hang in there and feel better soon!

  14. I remember when you had pneumonia a few years ago. Hope you can take care of yourself and hopefully not get that sick again. Glad the NG meals overnight are helping Will maintain his strength, and I'm glad he is entertained by the cat/dog interactions. It's so nice to have pets around... I miss not having a dog. Happy Halloween and I hope you all have a good week.

  17. I am sorry to hear that you have a cold. Let's just hope it is gone in a flash and you feel much better.

It will be fun to begin some schooling. You can go wherever Will's interests lead you.

  18. Dogs and cats can be so much fun. We have had dogs that wanted to chase the cat which didn't turn out so well at times. I hope that you are feeling better. Chest colds are the worst. Have a great week!

  19. Lol... power dynamics between pets make for fascinating watching - and I'm glad it's keeping Will amused:). So sorry to hear of your chest infection and I hope that it quickly clears up, as it's so very draining. And that Will soon bounces back from his latest round of medications. Have a week that is kind to you, Katherine.x

  20. Lol that photo is priceless! I miss having a dog so much sometimes. When Wyatt is older I think we will adopt another one. :)

I am sorry you haven't been feeling well! Hopefully you are doing better now. :( I am glad to hear though that Will is doing so well. :)

  21. At least Will is enjoying dog versus cat. 😁 Happy to hear he's feeling pretty good. The NG tube was 100% the best thing. I hope you will get photos of Will enjoying his new school room. 😊

Have you talked to your doctor about getting sick the same time every year. It just seems too coincidental to me. 😕

    I hope you've been having a great week. 🌞
