Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - July 11

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

A Spirit Seeks Asylum by Lena Gregory - I've enjoyed this series for several years so I had to pick this one up - plus there is no way I could resist the dog on the cover! (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  Fatal Family Ties by S.C. Perkins and An Early Wake by Sheila Connolly

Listening: Buy a Whisker by Sofie Ryan

I was so excited when I got on Instagram the other day and saw Will was in the stories for the Therapy dogs!  This picture is a few months old but our favorite therapy dog Orbit is still as sweet and low key as ever.  Will's has been feeling pretty good this week though we are still dealing with low energy and low appetite.  Getting kids to eat consistently over two + years of chemo is tough going for everyone involved!  Jason took the week off work and took him to his clinic appointment.  With Covid protocols only one parent is allowed with a patient so he hasn't seen the affiliate facility ever.  It's very different from the big sprawling Memphis St. Jude campus so he had been having trouble visualizing it.

Other then that it's been a pretty quiet week. Though my neighbor did bring us some tomatoes and for the first time in 2 years I made myself a tomato sandwich.  I didn't want to mess with bacon so I lightly toasted the bread, put a thin layer of mayo on both sides and loaded it up with tomatoes.  Then a sprinkle of kosher salt and a pretty hefty drizzle of balsamic glaze and I was in absolute heaven.  It was so good I made myself another right away!  I forgot how much I love tomato sandwiches and it reminds me of my grandfather because tomato sandwiches were his absolute favorite.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  2. Such a great picture, and how cool for Will to show up on an Instagram feature. I'm going to have to try adding some balsamic vinegar to a tomato sandwich. Sounds totally yummy. Sending lots of hugs to you guys! RO

  4. I am happy the therapy dogs make it easier. I love garden produce. My tomatoes will be late this year because I planted them late. I'll be shuffling things around a bit next year so I can do it earlier but I doubled my garden space.

  5. Great that therapy dogs are there for comfort for sick children and seniors in nursing homes as well. I haven't had a good tomato/mayo and toasted bead sandwich in years - a few more weeks to local big boy tomatoes here. Have a good week.

  6. Tomato sandwiches were my grandfather's favorite too, and I love them as well. He grew his own in his Georgia garden. Sliced tomatoes between plain white bread with mayo, salt & pepper. Delish! I'm so glad to hear Will is feeling pretty good. That's such a sweet picture. ♥

  7. Aaah therapy dogs. Actually all dogs are like therapy. Not to mention cats! A spirit seeks asylum does seem like a good read. Don't know the series, but I will take a look.

Take care of yourself and Will and have a good week!

  8. I know a great home made tomato on a sandwich, and your little additions add to they yumminess. Last summer mine were so tasty and I only had one plant but I even have some now in deep freeze to do something with over winter. I Love that dog on the cover. What a blessing Orbit is, such a lovely photo and great to find it there on IG.

  10. I love a tomato sandwich. This year I'm only growing cherry tomatoes but plan to make them in lettuce wraps (I'm doing keto so no bread). Thanks for sharing the pic with Orbit and Will!

  13. That is a great photo! I am glad they have that service - dogs make everything a little better.

And a tomato sandwich. I need to try that. I have a BLT and love those in the summer, but never just tomato. I am going to try it!

  14. Love the photo of Will and Orbit! Therapy dogs can be a big help. One visited Robin a few times when they were hospitalized for a month as a child.

The cover of the Lena Gregory book is enticing, and I also notice a cat on the Perkins cover. Pets are the theme of the day, apparently! Well, that and tomato sandwiches [grin]. I'm allergic, but I know many folks really love them. I'm glad you had a chance to indulge!
