Life with Leukemia (And Some Reading) - March 14

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

Well March has not started out quite as strong as I had hoped.  Will is struggling with the transition back to one of the chemo meds he had gotten a break from and has just been feeling awful most of the week.  No red flags to indicate anything to worry about but it's still stressful and I hate it for him because he's so tired of not feeling well.  Prior to this diagnosis he was very rarely sick and never more for a day or two and lately he's felt bad more often then not.  Big picture I'm so grateful for the incredible research done at St Jude that turned childhood Leukemia into an overwhelmingly curable disease but day to day sometimes it can feel overwhelming.  98 weeks of treatment to go.

I was doing the Yoga with Adriene March calendar on YouTube but my old neck injury started flaring up so I had to switch to some more gentle stretches.  If you get tension headaches or have any neck and shoulder pain I've found this video from Sarah Beth Yoga's YouTube channel to be AMAZING.  You can do it sitting in bed or on the couch too which I love.  I managed to get a couple of visits in with my chiropractor so I'm feeling tons better and am back to the calendar.  Other then that and taking care of Will not much has been going on around here.  Oh I did get a new Kindle!  My beloved 7 year old Paperwhite finally got a bit too quirky for comfort and I was forced to replace it because it wasn't turning any pages at all or two at a time.  I went back and forth on the different options but after much debate I ended up just going with a new Paperwhite (but green this time) and I'm so loving it and I love that it's waterproof so if pool time is ever an option again I don't have to worry about it getting damaged.

Currently:

Reading:  Off the Wild Coast of Brittany by Juliet Blackwell and Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey

Listening:  Final Exam by Carol J. Perry

Watching:  Not much.  I've mostly had YouTube going in the background.

Have a great week and happy reading!

  2. There are a lot of low-impact yoga videos on YouTube that I like. You may find something that's gentle on your neck. Congrats on your new ereader! I still have my Kobo after all these years. I love reading on it.

  3. Yeah its a long old journey for you and Will. My heart goes out to you. Must take a look at the video. I watch a couple, a daughter and a mother who is in her eighties. My level! Yes2Next I think it is. Take care, great about Paperwhite. My fridge caused a short in the house on Saturday and so no fridge. Trying to keep things cool until Monday when I may or may not be able to get an electrician!

  4. It must be so overwhelming thinking about the length of the treatment. I'm sorry it's been such a bad week.

  5. Hi Katherine! You are so strong and brave. I honestly salute you here from my side!

Please do take care of yourself too. Sorry to hear Will didn't have a good week and yes, I can just imagine how tired he must be of not feeling well.

Life is a bit hectic on my side, but nothing at all worth complaining. Just busy!!! Oh gosh, my Kindle is also 7 years old now and I am also starting to have a few problems here and there.... My birthday is in December. Maybe I must start prepping myself and my hubby for a new one. I got the most beautiful cover, a Van Gogh painting, about 2 years ago that I am so fond of!

Hope your week will be a bit better and that your neck is feeling much better.

    Lots of Love,

  7. I'm sorry Will had a bad week. Hopefully the remaining weeks will be better. I'm sending you lots of prayers and hugs ❤
I've been meaning to get a Paperwhite when my old ereader decides to stop working (hopefully that isn't anytime soon though), so it's good to hear that it's a good reader. I hope you have a great week ❤

  10. I'm sorry Will's having such a rough time of it this month. It's a long, hard road, but thankfully, as you said, they know a lot about treating leukemia now. I hope he begins to feel a bit better soon.

My Kindle has gotten a bit slow and occasionally quirky; it's also just over 7 years old. I figure some of the slowness is due to too many books on it; I need to remove some. Just from the device... although it wouldn't hurt to prune my Kindle library a bit, either. Especially of freebies I'll never read!

  11. Sorry Will has been sick. Hopefully his body adjusts to the medication quickly. Yoga With Adriene is tough this month! I don’t remember the other months being this hard. Maybe I’m just tired.

  13. Of course it's overwhelming; that's your baby and you don't want to see him suffer. I hope it eases up for him. Hugs.
Yay for a new Kindle. I use my Paperwhite all the time; it's just so much easier and convenient.

I love my Paperwhite, it’s two years old and so far is being well behaved, I hope it lasts as long as your old one did!

  16. I feel for Will. Chemo sucks and I 'only' had 16 week of it. I've been using Adriene's pre and post run yoga stretches and it has been so helpful. Congrats on the new Kindle!

  18. I am sorry Will is having such a tough time. I'm glad there are some treatments ahead that might improve things for him.

I also have neck and head pain a lot, and stretches do help. Thanks for sharing the info on the video.

Enjoy your books and your week!

  20. Will continues to be in my prayers. I'm so glad you've found some help from the yoga video and chiropractor. Neck pain is awful. Thanks for telling us about your new kindle. I've been thinking of trading in my first generation oasis for a new paperwhite. The cover just isn't holding a charge for long and that gets annoying. I've had a few kindles since they came out and the paperwhite was my favorite. I hope you enjoy your reading this week and that Will starts to see more days of feeling better.

  21. I'm sorry will had a tough week... prayers continue.

Hooray for a new kindle! I had to get one not too long ago, too, and it's made such a difference.

  23. So sorry that Will hasn't been doing well, but I continue to keep him and the family in prayer. I've been having some shoulder and neck pain, so I'm going to hop over to check out that video. Thanks for the tip. I've been reading thrillers, and watching quite a few documentaries on Netflix. The history of Blockbuster and what happened to 9000 stores is fascinating. One continues to do well in Oregon. Sending lots of hugs, RO

  24. I am so sorry that Will has had a rough week. He has to be sick of feeling sick. Chemo is rough and I hate that he is having to go through it. I hope that you are enjoying your new Kindle. I hope that you have a great week!

  25. Sending comforting hugs. I am sorry Will is having a rough time of it. I am glad your neck is feeling better. My back has been giving me trouble again and so I am trying new stretches and paying closer attention to how I'm sitting during the day as I work (with frequent stand up and walk around or stretch breaks). One advantage to work at home days is being able to do silly looking stretches and not worry about anyone seeing me (other than the cats and my daughter.)

I am glad you were able to get a new Kindle! I was eyeing the new Paperwhites. I am happy with my e-reader right now though and it's functioning well--so I'll stick with it for awhile.

I hope you all have a better week this week. Take care!
