This Week in Reading - March 22

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

A Stroke of Malice by Anna Lee Huber - I'm really looking forward to this book.  This series has become a favorite of mine and I'm looking forward to reading this one.  (Publisher)

Who Speaks for the Damned by C.S. Harris - I just finished the previous book in the series and really enjoyed it so I'm excited to read this one.  (Publisher)

Gone with the Whisker by Laurie Cass - This is a cozy series that I haven't read but I've really been wanting to give it a try.  (Publisher)

Currently:

Reading:  Cat Among the Pigeons by Agatha Christie, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, and Seaglass Cottage by RaeAnne Thayne

Listening:  The Storm Sister by Lucinda Riley - My goal is to finish this book this coming week.  I've really been enjoying it but it's been hard to find time to listen.

Watching:  We are almost done with Grantchester on Amazon Prime and will be looking for something else to watch soon.  Any recommendations - especially for mysteries on Amazon Prime?

Off the Blog:

What a crazy week it's been!  On the last Sunday Post stuff was just starting to close here but our libraries were staying open.  As the week went on more and more stuff started to close and we're basically in full shutdown.  Earlier this week the governor issued an order closing the beaches and all restaurants except for takeout and delivery and pretty much everything else except for necessary services.  My husband (and pretty much everyone else I know) is working from home until further notice and we're pretty much just staying put for the foreseeable future.  Luckily all 3 of us are introverts and we already home school so our lives aren't THAT different but it's still weird to have NOTHING on our calendar.  We have been eating takeout some to mix it up but that's about it.  The weather has been seriously crummy here with lots of rain so going outside hasn't seemed particularly but today we might be adventurous and go for a drive.

I hope everyone is staying safe and sane during this weird time.

  1. It is such a weird time! We had takeout tonight too just to liven things up a bit. :)

I love that wintry cover on the Lady Darby mystery. That series always seem to get such good, mysterious looking covers.

Have a nice and safe week!

  2. Everything starting to close here too. All the Lucinda Riley books are so long, certainly two stories/books long. Stay safe and well.

  3. The shutdown here will go into full effect tomorrow. I'm now reluctant even to go to the local shops and might order the newspapers to be delivered instead. I'm phoning our GP to get a prescription three weeks early so I don't need to go in there and get it delivered to us at home. I'm getting very worried that we are going to end up like Italy. Stay safe all of you.

  4. Yep, the week was definitely strange. I am catching up on books and tv shows. And more surprisingly I am getting things done too. Why haven’t we thunk of this sooner right?

  5. Like you, I tend to be an introvert, and work from home, so staying home hasn't been too much different EXCEPT no library and not thrift store shopping for me Kool Katherine! Luckily, I picked up about 9 books that had been on hold for me the day before they shut down, so I'm knee deep in spy novels and football work. And you already know Netflix is even more of my friend these days. Continue to hang in there! Hugs, RO

  6. I keep seeing the comments everywhere about how staying home is not that difficult for us introverts...and I completely agree! I do miss going out to shops now and then, but I'm adjusting.

I like the look of The Sea Glass Cottage. Enjoy your week.

  7. We've watched several mystery series through Prime, but I think that most of them were on Acorn or PBS or Britbox. Those channels are available for trial periods, but are additional subscription fees (not very large). Anyway, there are a bunch of them out there.

Hope you guys stay healthy. Aren't you glad you got your Disney trip completed before all this and your time in New Orleans? You've probably been able to adjust to the school thing better than so many because you started homeschooling. Take care...

  8. Everything has been odd last week. I love to read, but I also love people, so it's been tough. We did have a tiny party for my grandson yesterday, and that helped.

I'm reading The Long Winter, too, and somehow it has also been helpful to read about terrible troubles long ago.

You are reading a nice variety of books. I liked Gentleman in Moscow very much. Hope you do, too.

  9. Yes, we've been eating more takeaways than usual, too. I am very glad the beach is still open, though I'm expecting it to be shut down soon, if the death toll doesn't ease up. Take care, Greg - as you say, it's weird...

  10. I don’t socialise a lot anyway but my teens are going to find it increasingly frustrating.

I’m not sure about the differences between Amazon US and Amazon Au offerings, but I’d recommend Death in Paradise and Endeavour

Wishing you a great reading week, be well!

  11. I read Sea Glass Cottage last week and really enjoyed it for an escape from all the weirdness. Hope you like it too :) I wish my husband were a bit more of an introvert. He starts working from home this week, and he's already making up 'necessary' errands. When he asked if I needed anything, I said, "YES. For you to stay home." :D

  12. I'm way behind on the Laurie Cass series. It's a good one, though, and I really want to read the new one. This is definitely a weird time. Stay well and enjoy your books!

  13. It is almost surreal how quickly everything seems to be changing. I really hope that we can stop the spread of this virus and save lives. It is strange to have everything just stopped so suddenly. I hope you have a great week and enjoy all of your new books.

  14. It's a strange time but not so different for us either as we stay home mostly. I like it so far I'm just worried about people losing their jobs and how long this will last.

Have a healthy week and enjoy some good reads!

  15. Glad things are not to bad for you. The bad thing about living in a small town like I do is there is not take out unless we travel to a different town and use a drive thru. Our towns cafe is trying to stay open with carry out only but they have no drive thru, so I guess you go to the door and they hand it to you?? It's the owners only income as both husband and wife work there so they have to try and stay open as much as they can. It's places like that that I feel the worst for. :( I am a homebody, but I am more ticked about being told I can't go anywhere. How far with the government go??? Not that I can do anything about it.

Hope you have as good a week as you can and happy reading!

  16. Oh, your ARCs looks good. Enjoy!

The governor of my state ordered daycares and preschools to shut down so I'm unemployed until they can reopen. I'm also an at-risk person so it's probably just as well. I tend to stay home when not working but that's by choice. Having to stay home is different but at least I have lots of books.

    Happy reading and stay safe!

  17. Glad you're safe and well at home. Yeah, we're homebodies too.

  18. I’m also an introvert, so the “stay inside” order hasn’t been too challenging. I’ve gotten a lot of reading done. I hope you have a good week!

  19. We had a few closings and then it rapidly went down hill. I'm still going to work but that can change at any moment. Be safe:)

  20. It’s hot and sunny here most days so we have to get out early to walk the dog or do any outside work. Our libraries have been shuttered but there are ebooks to check out, thankfully. A drive is a nice idea, just to get out. I’m reading Educated now and have lots of books lined up .

  21. Everything is shuttered here, too, except for stores that have groceries and essentials, hardware stores, and restaurant take-out and delivery. We also have an 8:00 pm curfew. There is a college bar at the end of our street and I never realized the amount of night time noisy traffic it generates, even though the parking lot outlet is on another street. I like the quiet at night. 😊

Stay well. I hope you have been having a good week. 🌞

  22. Shutdown mode is hard..I knew when they started closing the libraries and gyms..my motivation was starting to peter out and I'm all about being social. But I've found some theater events in my community that are live streaming so I'm happy..I feel connected to people at a different level now. Here's a new connection. This is my first visit to your blog @theglobaldig.blogspot.com

  23. This introvert misses having alone time. LOL With everyone home, there isn't really an opportunity. I don't count my short commute to work every day, despite my husband's insistence that it should count. Honestly though, I wish I was able to stay home with them during this crisis. We still cannot find much in the stores. It's all so frustrating. I hope you and your family continue to stay safe, Katherine.
