Top Ten Tuesday - Changes in My Reading Life

Today I'm linking up with Top Ten Tuesday hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl which is all about lists.  Since lists are one of my favorite things this is one of my favorite linkups!  Today's topic is all about changes in my reading life.  Honestly, not all that much has changed in my reading life so this is going to be a top 5 instead of a top 10.

1.  My reading numbers have definitely slowed way down - I used to read over 200 books a year but now I'm lucky if I hit 150 and I think I'm going to fall way short of the mark this year.

2.  I read a wider variety of genres - Until I was about 20 I read almost exclusively mysteries with a sprinkling of nonfiction.  Then around 20 I switched to romance and that was about all I read.  Now I read a pretty good mix of genres and feel a little stagnate if I stay on the same genre for too long.

3.  I read series out of order - I used to never do this.  Like NEVER ever ever.  But now I do it all the time and have no issues with it.

4.   I have multiple books going at the same time - I never had a hard and fast rule about multiple books but I was usually a one book at a time kind of person.  Now I always have at least 1 print book, 1 ebook, and 1 audio book going at a time and usually multiples of all three mediums.

5.  I listen to audiobooks - I was never a big audio book listener.  Every once in awhile I would and I'd enjoy it but it definitely wasn't a regular thing.

What has changed in your reading life?

  1. A wider variety of genres and reading more than one book at a time are changes I can relate to also.

  2. I can't read a series out of order! The genres I read have too many continuing plot threads. But I do agree that genres like cozy mysteries and romance are different and can work to read in a different order. I'd like to read more audio books too!

  3. Interesting! I skipped this week because I really couldn't think of anything. I'm a creature of habit, I guess :)

    Happy TTT!

  4. Interesting post. I used to never be able to read series out of order, but now I do all the time because of reviews. It doesn't bother me like it used to.

  5. Some great changes! I think I am now less likely to want to pick up romance although I still read it. I try to read widely but then I have to admit why read something that's not really me. My count has gone down and I read less than I used to!

  7. I have also allowed myself to read books in a series out of order. That is a pretty recent change for me. I think my biggest change has been that I rarely read anything but review copies but I hope to find a better balance moving forward.

  8. What an intriguing post, Katherine. Over the years, the biggest change has been a shift from print books to ebooks. It's rare these days that I read anything in print and since I discovered the joys of audiobooks at the beginning of the year, I am now also listening to a number of books while cleaning the house and getting up in the mornings. I've always been a bit gung-ho about reading books in the correct order - with some series it definitely matters more than others, I find...

  10. It's funny - our reading lives have changed in such similar ways! I read audiobooks now, I read multiple books at a time, I read way more variety (all on my TTT list too). I actually still try not to read out of order, but it happens sometimes. And I honestly didn't know how much I read before, because I didn't track, but I think I read more now. I think. Love your list!

  11. I guess my biggest change is audiobooks. My sister tried to get me onboard for years and I kept saying no, but I love them now. 💕
