Ramblings from the Stacks - Why I Love the Book Blogging World

I have to admit - lately I've been spending lots of time away from the world of book blogs.  Between my newfound love of YouTube and Disney blogs and a few other things I've been visiting all kinds of different worlds and honestly this and the inevitable reading of the comments (always a bad of a day in worlds other than the book world) have made me so appreciative of the community here.  Here's some of the things I love about my experience in the World of Book Blogging

1.  Everyone is nice - In almost six years of blogging I can count on one hand the number of comments I've gotten that were even vaguely negative and even those were negative about my opinion of the book and never strayed to me personally which seems to be a rarity online.

2.  We can disagree about books and it's okay.- There have been many times where I have disagreed with a blogger friend's book opinion or vice versa and it's always okay.  I remember in particular absolutely loving The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware and Stormi over at Books, Movies, Reviews, Oh My! really didn't.  We both commented on each others posts and it was okay.  I didn't take it personally that she didn't like it and vice versa (or at least I don't think she took it personally that I disagreed with her!).

3.  We can read different genres and still be blogging friends - There are so many bloggers I follow who either read genres that I have no interest in or the other way around and yet I always look forward to their comments and enjoy reading and commenting on their blogs.

4.  We are all incredibly different people with different lives, from different places and yet the love of books is really the most important thing. - I think most of us could say that we don't know many people in our day to day lives who read like us.  All of my family are readers (expect for my 9 year old but I haven't given up hope yet!) but none of them read even close to the same number that I do and none of them seem to enjoy it as much as I do.  It's so wonderful to have found such a diverse group of people who all get that side of each other.

What do you love about the Book Blogging World?  Have you had any less than positive online experiences?

  1. I love what you said here and I totally agree with all of it. There's a reason that I stepped away from Facebook and don't choose to join again or read a lot of other online platforms. I know that I am 'out of touch', but seriously, for me, the book world is most of the 'in touch' that I want. LOL

  2. You echoed my thoughts Katherine. I love seeing what other are reading. It has made me try some books that I never otherwise would have tried. Everyone is so nice!

  3. I agree with so much of this. Compared to so much of the online world it seems like book blogging is mostly an oasis of civility. And #4 is honestly why I stick around this whole book blogging thing- the like minded people who love books as much as I do- in real life that's pretty unusual.

  4. Couldn't agree more. Isn't it eye opening to see comments in other sections of the internet world. I've learned not to get involved. I love the book podcasting world for same reasons as you about book blogging, I rarely like the books they discuss but I just love the happy book talk. And its totally understandable we don't all like the same books, we are all different but its really nice when we overlap with someone on a book. Even if it is very occasionally.

  6. YES, yes, yes to all of that! I take breaks from our community every now and again, and when I come back, it's like coming home. There is always a warm welcome. And luckily I've had no first hand negative experiences, *knocks on wood*!

  7. 3 or 4 years ago, I found BookTube on YouTube and love it and there's several Goodreads Groups that I am active in and the Facebook group, Readers of Kindle books, I've been on for since it's inception in 2011 and got me to buy my first Kindle and to revive my love of reading. The past few years, I have been on and off with my book blog and luckily now, I've been fatefully posting my reviews of books that I have read for the past few months. I, unfortunately, have not posted much else, but a couple years ago when I tried to do about 3 posts a week based on weekly sponsored posts, I got tired and stressed about having to always do them. I'm thinking of maybe trying to do one each week and only one, so as not to get burnt out.

  8. I always lose patience with the minority of book people that seem to challenge me on my thoughts for a book with comments like 'how can you not love that book!' or 'I can't believe you hated it!' That REALLY drives me mad as if my view is stupid because I don't agree with them.

  12. It is because of book bloggers that I've gotten into more genres and have been exposed to different authors. You are one of the main bloggers who helped me expand my reading picks. Disney blogs? You mean ones of hardcore Disney going fans?

  13. I agree so much with all of this, I feel like it's a really positive and uplifting community. Even reading the comments on someone else's blog is a real feel good moment.
