This Week in Reading - December 2

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon - I love Lynn Cahoon and this is the next book in one of my favorite series so I'm really excited for it.  I love that it's St. Patrick's Day themed too.  (NetGalley)

Death by Committee by Alexis Morgan - This is a new to me series and author but I like the sound of it.  There's a ramshackle estate that the main character inherits, a Mastiff, and a buried body in the backyard.  I have high hopes.  (NetGalley)

Currently:

Read:  Let the Dead Keep Their Secrets by Rosemary Simpson and Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis

Listening: I just finished The Child by Fiona Barton and am starting Endless Beach by Jenny Colgan

Watching: I'm taking a break from Hallmark movies and have switched to Investigation Discovery shows.  I'm starting to burn out on all the murder so I'll probably switch back to Hallmark soon.

Off the Blog:

This has been a week of annoyances.  I burned my finger right above my wedding ring and ended up having to get it cut off.  We were able to do it without damaging it too much so I'm hoping I can have it repaired fairly easily.  Then we had a credit card hacked which has meant lots of phone calls and filling out forms and waiting.  I'll get a new card and the money will be returned but it's so maddening.   On top of that I'm recovering slower than I'd like.  I'm so tired of not feeling well and so the setbacks are driving me crazy.  So nothing too catastrophic but lots of annoyances.

On the Blog:

Have a great week and happy reading!

  1. Thank goodness you found out about the credit card matter so quickly, but I can still imagine that it has to be a nightmare to deal with. Then that painful burn, along with the lingering pneumonia, and you must be an unhappy camper. I sure hope you can rest and heal, and of course, I'm keeping you in prayer. Hugs...RO

  2. Ohy no sorry to hear about your ring, and burning your finger. And the hacking. That's happened to us too and it's so aggravating. Hope this week is annoyance- free!

The Lynn Cahoon books looks fun- hers always do though!

  3. Oh wow. This has been a tough week for you. I had to have a ring cut off and they were able to repair it so you couldn't even tell. Good to hear the credit card company is making things right, That's such a pain though. I hope you heal quickly and that next week is less annoying.

  4. Yikes.. Sorry to read about your wedding ring and the creditcard. That really sucks! I hope this week will be much better for you. ;)

  5. Oh my goodness. When I read the sentence about burning your finger, I saw "I had to get it cut off," and, at first, I thought you meant your finger!

Of course getting your ring cut off is difficult, too, but at least they didn't have to cut off your finger. Lol.

  6. It sounds like a really tough week for you. I hate a week like that when everything goes wrong. Dr Chuckles prescribes some booky therapy to make things a bit better!

  7. Urg! That's a dreadful week, Katherine... I'm really sorry to hear about all of it. Thank goodness you managed to get your card sorted - I have a student who has lost £20,000 with the prospect of getting back only £6,000 of it.

I am sure your wedding ring can be repaired - and I hope the burn quickly heals as such injuries are so very painful:((. Sending you heaps of good wishes and hope that the coming month is a LOT kinder...

  8. Wow, sorry to hear about all the troubles you have been having. I hope they can repair your ring. I really like that Lynn Cahoon has been writing novellas that surround holidays. They are a lot of fun.

    Happy reading,

  10. Hacking is such a horrific thing to go through...knock wood. I've had emails hacked in the past but credit cards...so much worse! I hope your finger heals nicely and your ring can be repaired.

Enjoy your books. I like the look of Corned Beef and Casualties. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  12. Thank goodness you found about the credit card before it was too late and you got it all sorted. Sorry that you had such an awful week. I hope the next one is better.

  13. Do hope you will back to 100% soon, but in the meantime go easy. Ah CC hacking would be such a nuisance and your poor finger and ring. A big ouch. I hope your reading and listening will be better than real life!

  14. Ouch; how'd you burn your finger in just that area? Sorry about the CC hack. I had to deal with identity fraud in my 20's; it sucked and it's so violating. How frustrating for you; I'm sorry your body is not healing fast enough for you.

  15. What a week! At first I thought you meant your finger had to be cut off o_0 - then I reread and was relieved to figure out you meant the ring!! Ugh. Sorry about the credit card hacking. That's happened to us as well. I've heard getting over this pneumonia is a hard process. Hope you can get more rest this week.

  16. I am so sorry you are going through all this! I think your ring can be repaired if you take it to a good jeweler, still, what a hassle. And having your cards hacked is awful. We've been through that and I had to fill out so much paperwork.

    Hope your month improves!

  17. Ugh, that stinks, Katherine. I have to tell you that (funnily enough) I read this sentence quickly: "I burned my finger right above my wedding ring and ended up having to get it cut off." My immediate thought was that you were talking about having your finger cut off. Yikes! Hope thing calm down for you soon.

  19. Oh no! I hope you can get your ring repaired. That sucks about your credit card. I just had to get a new card a few weeks ago and it was such an ordeal. I hope things turn around for you this week! Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

  20. Oh no - it definitely sounds like you've had a rough week. Here's hoping this next one proves to be on the up. A wonderful week to you... & I hope you start to feel better also!

  21. Oh, I'm so sorry you had such a a tough week! It's too bad about your ring, but it's probably fixable if you take it to a good jeweler. And the credit card thing stinks. We've been through that several times (not to mention having my whole identity stolen.) It's frustrating and disheartening, but luckily our credit card companies have been pretty good about it. I'm a week late getting to this post, but had to come read it when I read in this week's (Dec. 9) post about your ring. Hugs!

  22. Oh ouch on the finger. That sucks :( The cards, too. I've got mine set so if a penny is spent I know within 20 seconds. Gives me a little bit of relief that hopefully if something happens I can catch it quick. Such a pain!
