Let the Dead Keep Their Secrets - Historical Mystery Review

Rating: Loved It!
Source:  Publisher

Description:
Childbirth can be dangerous even for the wealthy. So when opera singer Claire Buchanan shows Prudence and Geoffrey a postmortem cabinet photograph of her deceased twin sister and newborn niece, they express sadness but not surprise. The popular black-bordered portraits are the era's way of coping with the devastating losses that plague every family. What makes this death different is that Claire is convinced Catherine and her child were murdered.

Prudence's friend is haunted by a sense of her sister's lingering presence, and by the conviction that her dead twin is demanding justice. Catherine's widower, Aaron Sorensen, is a cold, controlling man who swiftly remarried. Now his second wife is already pregnant and may be in terrible danger. In order to discover the truth and find evidence of Sorensen's guilt, Geoffrey will delve deep into his past while Prudence casts herself as his next victim—putting her own life at grave risk . . .

Why I Picked This Book:
I've been loving historical mysteries and the premise of this one intrigued me.

My Impression:  I love a good historical mystery and one thing thing that I’ve really been loving this year is discovering new to me historical mystery series.  This is my latest and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about it.  This is the 3rd mystery in the series and while it’s clear that the characters have some serious backstories that get explained in previous books I had no problem understanding who each character was, how they were connected to each other, and the mystery itself.

This isn’t really a whodunnit.  Right from the start you pretty much know the who and really the why but seeing how far the character will go and just how it will unravel really kept me reading.  I really loved Prudence and the rest of the characters and I loved their interactions.  While Prudence is respected by her male colleagues there is some back and forth on her taking an active role in the investigation at times that I found realistic.

This was a fascinating historical mystery that has a fast pace and interesting and unique characters.  I’m thrilled to have discovered it and am glad I have the first two books to tide me over while I wait for book #4!

Would I Read More of this Series/Author?
Absolutely!  I'm looking forward to continuing the series and going back and reading the first two books.

Would I Recommend this Book?
If you're a historical mystery fan this is a must not miss series!  I had no problem jumping in on this book.

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review.  As always my opinions and impressions are completely my own. *
