This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
You have just won a $100 Visa Gift Card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector's edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly published books?
My Answer:
I'd probably buy several newly published books. I don't really collect certain editions of books so unless there was something like a signed Agatha Christie mystery I think I'd be more tempted by something shiny and new.
This week's book is A Just Clause by Lorna Barrett. This is a series set in Booktown, Vermont which is a fictional city filled with different bookstores. I like this series but because I hope that by reading it such a place will suddenly exist!

ReplyDeleteI've read one or two in this series and was intrigued too by a town filled with bookshops. Ha! As to the gift card - well, I'd buy new books too. Or at least books that are 'new to me'. I do have a few older books that I've collected, but I like to find them at antique shops and places like that. I will say that a lot of people are getting much more savvy about 'collectibles' in the book realm. The bargains are harder to find.

Like you I would buy several new books. I only collect books I want to read and only keeps books I plan to read again. This week I have Girl With a Gun by Kari Bovee - a historical mystery from my review stack. Happy reading!

Great answer! I definitely know what you mean and I would do the same. Unless there was a specific edition that I felt like I HAD to have, then I'd prefer to spend the money on new books by different authors and genres to explore different reading preferences.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, if someone gave me a $100 gift card it would probably end up going for something for my family. When I buy print books, I am much more likely to buy something that my daughter would enjoy than just something for myself. Not that I don't buy books for myself but those are usually ebooks or audiobooks.

Katherine, I answered the same as most. I'm yet to find someone that has chosen collectors edition, but for me, it depends on my wishlist. If for example I had something I wanted from The Folio Society, I'd have easily gotten that over a few books.
