This Week in Reading - May 6

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

Staged 4 Murder by J.C. Eaton - This is the 3 book in a favorite cozy mystery series.  I'm super excited about this one because it involves the Agatha Christie play "The Mousetrap".  (NetGalley)

Killer Green Tomatoes by Lynn Cahoon - This is the 2nd in Cahoon's Farm to Table series.  While she's one of my favorite cozy mystery authors and I have the 1st book in the series I have yet to actually read it.  I'm hoping getting the 2nd one will make that happen!  (NetGalley)

Heron's Landing by JoAnne Ross - I can't resist a small town romance especially when it has both an inn and home renovation!  (Blog Tour)

Currently:

Reading:  Only Skein Deep by Maggie Sefton and The Forgotten Room by Lauren Willig, Karen White, and Beatriz Williams.

Listening:  I'm almost done with The Blackbird Season by Kate Moretti.  I have somewhat mixed feelings about it but am finding it a fairly compelling listen.

Watching:  I've been binging on Trading Spaces which is really fun.  We've also been watching the original Star Trek movies which are fun though William Shatner is a pretty terrible actor.

Off the Blog:

Well my month of birthday celebration started off with a little bit of a whimper as the Tornado and I both keep getting sick.  He bounces back completely for a few days and then is sick again for a day but I've been in stages of not feeling good to blah to okay and then back to not feeling good.  It's annoying.  I have managed to do some online shopping and then we all went out to dinner at the Melting Pot Friday night because dipping bread in melted cheese is never a bad thing.  Today on my actual birthday we're going to stop by a new cupcake shop and then have lunch at my mother's.  Tonight will be takeout eaten on the couch while wearing comfy clothes and watching either Antiques Roadshow or Trading Spaces because that's the kind of party girl I am.  I'd like to say it's just because I'm worn out from being sick but that's not entirely true.  I still have a list of things to do to celebrate and the month is still young.

  3. Happy birthday. I hope you recover enough to enjoy it. I was ill on my birthday a few years ago and it was miserable so you have my sympathy.

  4. First of all, Happy Birthday! Hope you are able to enjoy the day even if you're not feeling your best. Looks like you've gotten some good books and I'll be watching for your review of Maggie Sefton's newest. I've read most of that series, but am a bit behind now. I did see Maggie at Malice Domestic on a panel. She was discussing her other series that's set in the DC area. I'm working on my Malice posts this week and they will go live May 14-18. Seriously, Katherine, you should think about going to that conference if you are ever able. You would love it. :-)

  5. A very Happy Birthday to you, Katherine. I'm sorry you and Tornado keep becoming poorly... I love the Antiques Roadshow - I'm guessing you have your own version of it? And Trading Places is always a fun film:). Take care and have a great week.

  6. I enjoyed the first one in the Farm to Table mysteries though I still think her first series will always be my favorite! :) To bad The Blackbird Season is mixed for you as I still need to try that one.

Hope you get to feeling better and can do those things on your list!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  17. Hau'oli la hanau, Katherine. I'm glad you have plans to celebrate the way you want to despite this on and off bug. When it's my birthday, I like to milk it and not have to cook for a whole weekend or two.

  19. Happy birthday! And I'm sorry you and the Tornado have been under the weather. I hope you both shake it soon.

A murder mystery featuring The Mousetrap?! Sounds like fun! I directed my students in The Mousetrap back when I was an English and drama teacher, several decades ago. (That's an appalling thought! Where on earth did the time go?) It's a great mystery.

  21. Happy Birthday!! There's absolutely nothing wrong with lots of gooey cheese, so lucky you! I was hooked on Trading Spaces 9 years ago, and I'm just as hooked today. I have to admit that I saw the potential train wreck for the two couples this Saturday, and I cringed inside. I knew they wouldn't be able to relate to Hildy's design esthetic at all. Sure enough, these couples made history because neither liked their designs. By the way, I really loved that disco ball. Didn't you?(lol) Hope you and the handsome one are feeling better. Hugs...RO

  24. We do birthday week here. We tried birthday month, but it only gave us an excuse to put things like cakes and special dinners off because there was always "next week", and it turned into no birthday month, ha ha. Sorry you were sick. :( It seems like all the new strains of flu have that recurrence thing going on. I hope you had a good rest of the week. I getting around really late. :)
