This Week in Reading - May 13

It's Sunday Post time Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.
me!  This is hosted by the awesome

What I Got:

Somebody's Daughter by David Bell - I've been wanting to read David Bell's thrillers for awhile so I was thrilled when I was offered a copy for review.  (Publisher)

Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin - I've been reading a lot of mysteries and this contemporary romance looked a little bit out of the ordinary.  I'm looking for a good summer read.  (Publisher)

Cooper's Charm by Lori Foster - This is another blog tour.  It has the combination of an author I've been wanting to read, a woman who takes a job at a lakeside resort AND a puppy on the cover.  I couldn't resist.  (Blog Tour)

Currently:

Reading:  Better Off Read by Nora Page and The Forgotten Room by Karen White, Beatriz Williams, and Lauren Willig

Listening:  I finished The Blackbird Season by Kate Morretti and am trying to decide what to do next.

Watching:  NCIS made me ugly cry this week and I'm not loving this multiple elimination on Dancing with the Stars though I do enjoy the all athletes season.

Off the Blog:

Today I'm heading home after a weekend spent in south Mississippi.  Here in north Alabama we're having somewhat spring weather with highs in the low 80s and most importantly - low humidity.  South Mississippi has skipped the spring part and gone straight to highs in the 90s.  I'm not quite ready to be wearing shorts just yet!  This week is the last full week of school for the Tornado and we are looking forward to summer.  We're not morning people and taking a break from the groggy frantic rush out the door Monday through Friday sounds fantastic.  I'm also trying to get a few weekend trips planned.

I'm continuing my birthday month celebration with some Amazon book shopping and reading books that have been on my TBR for far too long.  I'm thinking about throwing in some rereads as well for some extra indulgence!

This week I've got my 2nd Movie Essential review coming up Tuesday and this one is such an essential that I almost skipped it!  I've really been enjoying watching and rewatching classic movies and am excited to be talking about my favorites.

On the Blog:

Monday:  Better Off Read - Cozy Mystery Review
Tuesday:  Movie Essentials

  2. I'm doing some rereads too. It's been fun. I live on Mobile Bay in southern Alabama. We had around 90 and low humidity until Friday. Guess spring has sprung and summer has begun. LOL

  3. I'll be curious what you thought of the Blackbird Season! I mostly liked it but had a few thoughts... it's one of those books where I kinda go back and forth. And glad the humidity isn't too bad yet, at least in Alabama. I think those 90's in MS would kill me :)

Looking forward to your Movie Essentials post, I love stuff like that!

  5. I so love your birthday month idea. And to throw in some fav rereads is such a good idea. I am not a great movie watcher. I am always gonna... but never quite get to them!!

  6. Looking forward to hearing more about the Movie Essentials - yay! I sure hope you're feeling better and can relax a little today. I have to do a quick run this morning, then I'm back in the house before the weather melts me. (lol) I've been in Mississippi during the Summer months and it was not fun, so I know you're glad to be back home. Happy Birthday Month and Happy Mother's Day! Hugs...RO

  7. Hope you have a Happy Mother's Day! Can't believe your school is almost out. I think the ones in our area go until the end of the month or close to it. Looking forward to hearing about what classic movie you've picked for this week. And I've got that David Bell book too. I've read one of his book, can't think which now, enjoyed it, and meant to read more.

  8. Happy Mother’s Day to you! It’s is kinda crazy how fast this school year has went by, my kids are already done with the work, (homeschooled) and started their summer vacation. I think we kinda skipped spring and went straight to summer too, it’s been in the upper 80’s all week. We are normally in the low 70’s this time of year. Ugh. Have a great week!!!

  9. I kind of quit watching NCIS after Ducky retired and then I heard that Abbie's character was going and so I am really not happy with where the show is going and think it won't be on for much longer as all the good ones are leaving. I do love me some Mark Harmon but I loved those others as well. :(

I haven't read David Bell and I am curious so hope you like him!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  10. Where I live has decided to skip spring in favor of going directly to summer-- our temps have been in the 90s BUT almost anything is bearable if the humidity is low :)

  11. Somebody's Daughter looks very good. I still have the author's Bring Her Home (unread) on my Kindle. Must read soon!

I enjoyed The Blackbird Season. Have a great week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  13. I am not a morning person either. I can't wait until my son is out of school. I have to get up at 5:30 to get him out the door by 7. I can't wait to set the alarm to later. :)
The weather is just so not normal. We had super nice spring to really cool weather again.

Safe Trip Home! Have a great week, Katherine! Happy Reading!

  15. I am delighted the weather is being reasonably kind and hope the low humidity continues... I enjoy taking things a bit easier during the summer holidays, too - though I have a longer wait than you do. Have a great week, Katherine:)

  18. I agree with you about NCIS. That last day of my youngest going to high school was such a celebration of not having to get up so early!! Happy Mother's Day.

  20. I haven't watched NCIS in ages. When we move (that will be a few years) I want to be sure we can get broadcast TV!
Glad your birthday month is going well. Where you visit in Mississippi is on the same latitude as us so yeah....90 degree weather and high humidity. Happy to hear you aren't getting that extreme yet.

  21. Hope you had a happy Mother's Day yesterday. Hard to believe the school year is coming to an end already. It seems like the rainy season is getting an early start here in Florida this week... we'll be starting our journey north next weekend. Have a good week :)

  22. Glad to read you've been treatin' yourself in your birthday month.

  23. Here in TX we are officially in summer. Even though it was upper 80s it feels like mid-upper 90s. UGH.

Your birthday month celebration sounds like what I do. Hope you have a great month and find some great reads!

  24. Love, love, love the way you organize your blog by what happened last week/what to look forward to next week. I need to draw inspiration from you! :)

  25. I love re-reading some old favourites... Feels like there's never enough time for it at the moment. :(

  26. The pup in Coopers Charm was sweet. Hope you enjoy it!

  27. We had some 90s here, too, ugh. Yay for Amazon shopping! I did some of that, too, and Book Outlet, and Better World Books, Musician's Friend, and Brandless Organics, ha ha. I figured that I should probably get that done now before my summer break austerity budget falls into place! Yay for rereads, too. I hope you had a wonderful week. <3
