This Week's Book Blogger Hope Question:
Is there a fictitious town in a book that you'd love to live in? What makes it appealing?
My Answer:
Probably Lucky Harbor from the Jill Shalvis series of the same name. It's a little town that has some fun stores and a pretty tasty café. The people all seem nice and entertainingly quirky and since it's not a mystery series the death rate is pretty low.
This week's book is a bit dangerous for my diet as it takes place in a Cupcake bakery and I love cupcakes. The regular murders does make them slightly less appealing though. Wedding Cake Crumble by Jenn McKinlay is the newest in her Cupcake Bakery cozy mystery series which is always a good time though it does make me want to do quite a bit of baking!
The Beginning:
"Here comes the bride," Melanie Cooper sang as she held a bouquet of multicolored snap dragons in front of her as if she was walking down the aisle.
My Thoughts:
Not a particularly surprising beginning given the title but snapdragons are an unexpected flower choice.
The 56:
"Tell us Elise," Cassie said, "What inspired your novel The Palms"
"Well," Elise drew the word out, moving her gaze over the crowd as she let the anticipation weave its way around the audience, tightening about them until the tension had them in stranglehold, barely breathing as they waited for her disclosure. "I was inspired by my hus-"
"Liar!"
My Thoughts:
I want to know more about this book and just what she's lying about!

Ooh fun question. I would probably pick Storyton from Ellery adams' Storyton Hall series- a fun town plus a place with multiple libraries. :) Lucky Harbor sounds nice though, and hey a low death rate- that's always a plus!

I love that cupcake bakery series. And it's not set in a fictitious town, but I'd still like to live there - at least part of the year - Scottsdale, AZ. Home to the Poinsoned Pen Bookstore. I'd live in the bookstore - they'd allow that don't you think? LOL

That's a great question about the fictitious town! I'm not sure where I would pick, maybe I could stretch it to a warm place and one that's cool in summer. I'd love Dublin in summer (Tana French's books) but that's not fictitious.

I'm reading an urban fantasy series where it is extremely dangerous for any human in any town. This week I am featuring Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs - a new one by a favorite author. Happy reading!

ReplyDeleteI really need to read the Lucky Harbor series but I love the communities that Shalvis creates in some of her other works. I really need to get back to the McKinlay series. This one sounds great!

ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with the town that you chose, but it definitely sounds like a fun place to consider living. Of course, the citizens and characters would make it all the more fun, and it sounds like a great place to relax and just enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI would probably choose Henrietta from The Raven Cycle series, because I feel like it has a lot of secrets and magical mysteries to be explored. It definitely wouldn't bore me.
