Friday Linkups - A Brush with Shadows

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Who is your favorite children's book author and why?

My Answer:
This is a tough question as I have a number of favorite children's book authors so it's hard to narrow the list down to one.  I love Carolyn Keene, L.M. Montgomery, and so many more but I guess my favorite is probably Elizabeth Enright.  I love her Melendy series and the Gone-Away Lake books.  They're such fun adventure stories that really don't feel dated and read well even for adults.

This week's book is one in a series that I've been wanting to read for awhile - A Brush with Shadows by Anna Lee Huber.  I've been on a big historical mysteries kick lately and I've ha heard really great things about this one.  I'm not very far in but so far I'm really enjoying it.

The Beginning:
The first time I laid eyes on Langstone Manor, I could not blame my husband for having stayed away for over fifteen years.

My Thoughts:
Well that sounds a bit foreboding!

The 56:
I would have liked to fall back asleep, but my mind was too alert.

My Thoughts:
I can relate to this!  This happens to me all the time but I'm very rarely in the middle of a murder investigation.

So what do you think?  Keep reading?

  1. Favorite children's author - so many - Dr. Seuss, Judith Viorst, Shel Silverstein, Betty Ren Wright, Mary Downing Hahn, and on and on. I've been meaning to try Anna Lee Huber's series. I need clones of myself in order to read more books. That's my new idea. What do you think? LOL

  3. I couldn't narrow it down to just one either! I haven't read anything by Elizabeth Enright but I do like adventure stories. I say keep reading A Brush with Shadows. It sounds very intriguing!

  4. Favorite children's author - Mo Willems for his Elephant and Piggie books. I do like Elizabeth Enright too but haven't read her books for many, many years. A Brush with Shadows sounds like a book I'd enjoy too. This week I am spotlighting The Broken Girls by Simone St. James. Happy reading!

  5. I will check out your author. I need to read the Nancy Drew books. I read some here and there I guess. A box of them is shoved in the teen's closet. I'd like to reread the Anne of Avonlea series; I still haven't brought myself to watch the Netflix remake.

  7. Gorgeous cover. The opening makes me want to know what's so terrible about Langstone Manor. I can definitely relate to the 56 excerpt too. My brain seems to rev up when what I really want to do is go to sleep!

  18. I've seen a few of the Anna Lee Huber books and they always seen have nice covers, Whoever her cover designer/ artist is I approve! And it's nice when kids or MG books read well for adults too- I think that's a real skill, to be able to pull that off.

  23. I am familiar with the author Keene- Nancy Drew. I enjoyed reading those growing up. I see that they have created a different version of Nancy Drew for the new generation of kids. I have not heard of the other authors. The book you are reading sounds interesting.:)
