This Week in Reading - December 10th

It's Sunday Post time!  This is hosted by the awesome Caffeinated Book Reviewer and gives us all a chance to recap our week.

What I Got:

The French Girl by Lexie Elliott - This has some comparisons to Ruth Ware and I'm hoping for a good thriller!  (Publisher)

Beyond the Pale by Claire O'Donohue - This looks like an entertaining mystery and isn't due out until May so I don't really think it counts quite yet.  (NetGalley)

Another One Bites the Crust by Ellie Alexander - This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and I'm excited about this latest one! (Publisher)

The Crown Prince's Bride by Donna Alward - I love this author and I enjoyed the previous book in the series.  Plus, I can I do love an occasional royal romance.  (Publisher)

The Secret of Flirting by Sabrina Jeffries - Jeffries is hands down my favorite historical romance author and this looks intriguing.  (NetGalley)

Death Below the Stairs by Jennifer Ashley - I love a good historical mystery and I'm really excited about this one!  (Publisher)

Pre-Meditated Murder by Tracy Weber - I've had this series on my TBR for ever so I'm looking forward to giving this one a try.  (Giveaway win)

Eaves of Destruction by Kate Carlisle - I love Kate Carlisle's cozy mystery series about a book restorer and I love mysteries involving home renovation so I figure this is a match made in heaven!  (Giveaway win)

Currently:

Reading:  A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and Comic Sans Murder by Paige Shelton

Listening:  I finished From Russia With Love by Ian Fleming earlier this week and am about to start listening to One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis.

Watching:  Not a huge amount.  I've really been enjoying The Voice and I watched a number of Jimmy Stewart movies over this past week.

Off the Blog:

This is what I woke up to Friday morning.  Now for lots of people this wouldn't be all that shocking but in South Mississippi where I happened to be it was quite a big deal.  The area got 6 inches of snow overnight which is more than it's ever gotten in all of recorded history.  The only snowfall that even comes close was 5 inches in 1895 so as you can imagine the whole area was collectively losing their minds.  The local media went around and took pictures of all the kids and their snowmen which was really cute.  I was out in the middle of nowhere as you can see so I didn't see too many snowmen though I did enjoy looking out the window at all the snow.  When I called home which happens to be 400 miles north they hadn't gotten a single flake.  The Tornado found it very unfair!

  3. It's been fun seeing ppl's winter wonderland on IG. Six inches is quite thick. I smile at the thought of the "powder."

  5. Wow snow in Mississippi? And a lot too! We got snow this week also but that's a little more, um, normal lol. I bet the whole area was shut down!!

The French Girl looks good, I'll have to check that one out.

I love Jimmy Stewart movies (and old movies in general). So fun.

  8. I like the sound of The French Girl, that’s another one for my 2018 book list. That list is starting to get lengthy so I better outline some reasonable goals. Love the photos of the snow! I think I told you, maybe on instagram, that our cousins in Tylertown Mississippi had snow too. It was quite an event.

  10. I bet all that snow was fun for those who don't get that stuff ever, the south can keep it. :) It did get really cold here though...lol.

You got a lot of great books and I put some on my wishlist as I am trying really hard not to get grabby with review books. :)

    Have a great week!

  11. Snow seems to be appearing where it shouldn't all over the place! The French Girl sounds good, especially if compared to Ruth Ware x

  12. Oh my goodness! No - that's not a part of the world I think of as snowy in the winter. We are escaping with gale-force winds and pouring rain, but I'm just relieved there is no snow blizzarding down as so much of the country is enduring. And here it's a bit of a disaster as the UK can only cope with drizzle... Have a great week, Katherine. My Sunday Post https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/12/10/sunday-post-10th-december-2017/

  14. A lot of places that normally doesn't get snow, got a lot of it. This winter so far has been kinda crazy. I'm hoping this keep going this way though. Living up in a mountain we get enough as it is. lol... Poor Tornado though, I bet he would have had a lot of fun. Enjoy the new books and you Sunday.

  15. Wow, that snow is impressive, given where you live. I've been living in Central California for a lot of my life (with brief stops in Northern California), so snow has only happened two or maybe three times in all those years. But our snow didn't even stay on the ground for a whole day. In the nearby mountains, however, we regularly get a lot.

I enjoy visiting snow. I don't think I would like to live in it. LOL.

The French Girl looks very tempting! Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  16. I love the snow pictures. We got snow here, but that’s not unusual. It looks like you got a lot of interesting books. I hope you enjoy them!

  17. We’ve shut down school here in south Texas several times just for the threat of snow. However, on Friday, it really did snow and the buses were able to run, as nothing froze. The kids had so much fun. It was a joy watching them.

  18. We also got snow on Thursday evening. It stopped snowing before 10pm. Most just got a dusting of snow, but there were some who got 4 inches. We still had school. The kids were so bummed when school got out on Friday and it was all gone.

  19. I am so not ready for snow. It would be kind of neat to get some snow if it was as unusual as it seems to be for that area. Enjoy your new books! I have been considering The French Girl but trying to resist due to the size of my current review pile.

  20. The snow pictures are gorgeous! I love snow-- if I don't have to drive anywhere. If all I have to do is curl up with a book then yes, bring on the snow.

  21. Laughing at the snow and Tornado's sense of justice! I hovered over the Donna Alward book and I have a liking for royal romance too, but didn't succumb because I find just some romance goes a long way and don't want to overload.

  22. We don’t have snow here where I live. Oh so happy for you. The pictures are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a wonderful reading week. Happy reading. ❤️😁

  23. Ooh, I do like the sound of Death Below the Stairs - that whole upstairs/downstairs thing, eccentric characters including an unconventional female maths genius plus a murder to solve, what more could you want. Happy reading!

  24. Yay for A Christmas Carol. If I were The Tornado's age I would have felt cheated, too, but I am thinking better there than here. Ha ha. I hope your week is starting out stellar. :)

  25. Oh look at the snow! We usually have some by now, but not even snowflakes. It looks beautiful, cold but beautiful. Death Below Stairs was a good one and I hope you love it.

  26. I love the first snowfall. Actually, I just love how snow makes everything look clean and new. I missed picture taking of the snow storm we got on Saturday because I was at work. My Miguel got some pictures for me, but it wasn't the same. We are suppose to have a storm tomorrow, but it will be above freezing later in the day. That makes me sad. I hope we get s lots of snow this year (i know how weird that sounds).
You got some really interesting sounding books this week. I am looking forward to your reviews. Have a great week!

  27. Beautiful snowy pictures, although I'm not a big fan of snow. It does look pretty, though. We were supposed to get some last week, but it was more slush than accumulating snow.

I received The French Girl to review too. It looks really good. Have a great week!
