This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Off the book topic - What is your favorite scary movie?
My Answer:
I don't really watch a lot of horror movies because they seem to be really gore-y which I don't love. I do love a good scary movie though. Two of my favorites are probably The Blair Witch Project (though I haven't seen it in years - I should rewatch it) and The Conjuring.
The Beginning:
I placed my thumb and forefinger on the icy flesh, spreading it taut above the breastbone as Uncle had showed me.
My Thoughts:
I don't feel that this Uncle guy is a particularly kindly uncle. There's something a little creepy about the sentence.
The 56:
The murderer truly must be a madman if he thought what he was doing was helpful or righteous. And that thought was more terrifying than any other.
My Thoughts:
I can see how fighting a murderer who thinks he's on the side of the right would be especially difficult.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on scary movies. I didn't put it in my entry, but I actively avoid modern scary movies because they tend to be more about gore than being (actually) scary.

Don't think I'll be reading anything too scary for Halloween, other than my usual thrillers that is. Hope your Halloween read lives up to your expectations.
ReplyDeleteI avoid horror flicks, too. However, the true crime book I'm reading right now is pretty gruesome in spots. I guess that's appropriate for Halloween as well.

ReplyDeleteI think you should keep reading, I would! Although I get the impression that the uncle is like a mortician who does autopsies on dead bodies, so he's taught her how to do them too. So not creepy, she's just like an intern.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that this is one I would buy new, however If someone were to give me a copy, I don't think I would be able to resist reading on from those opening lines you shared.
The cover art is excellent and I would never have guessed hhat this was a childrens imprint, so highly has it been rated on various sites.

ReplyDeleteI have a friend whose favorite Halloween movie is The Blair Witch Project. I haven't ever seen it. Maybe someday. I don't watch a lot of scary movies. Maybe Nightmare Before Christmas? Just kidding. ;-)
