Friday Linkups - Assault and Buttery

It's Friday linkup time!  I'm linking up with the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader, and the Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
Candy Corn, chocolate bar, or popcorn.  Which of these are your favorite to eat while reading?

My Answer:
I'm not really a big snacker while reading but of these 3 I think I'd pick popcorn.  If it's just in general I'd go with chocolate bars but I've discovered chocolate and books typically end with chocolately fingers and chocolate smudges on pages.

This week's book is Assault and Buttery by Kristi Abbott.  This is the 3rd in the series though the 1st I've read.  I love a good cozy title pun and this book involves and old diary and a missing persons case so there was no way I could resist all 3!

The Beginning:
I walked over to the bars of my jail cell.  "Hey!  Anybody out there?  I want my phone call.  Don't I get a phone call?"

My Thoughts:
Well that's an interesting beginning!  I wonder how she managed to get herself thrown in jail.  Cozy mystery MCs do have a tendency to wind up there now and then.

The 56:
I was perfectly prepared to not blink for the next ten minutes if necessary.  Luckily, that wasn't necessary.  She blinked first.

My Thoughts:
It sounds like the MC has a nemesis!  A good nemesis can be incredibly entertaining!

So what do you think?  Keep reading?  Where do you fall on the cozy mystery title puns?  Love them or hate them?

  1. My favourite thing about cozy mysteries is the titles, I love them! The punnier the better (not sure if that's a word but you know what I mean!).
I'm not a snacker while reading either. I used to be, but I broke the habit. It's too messy!

  2. I don't like popcorn so that would not be my snack. I agree about the chocolate though.

I don't think this would be something that I would read. But I am also wondering how she ended up in jail.

  3. This sounds like a good one. I love the titles of cozies too. I have a science fiction book this week - The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. Happy reading!

  4. Awesome answer! I love popcorn but chocolate is such an easy snack to eat while reading because you can just pop it in your mouth and then you don’t have to deal with sticky fingers messing up your book.

  5. I don't read a lot of cozy mysteries, but I do like pun-y titles. I also love how your current read fits so well with this weeks book blogger hop question (kind of).

Have a great weekend. - Katie

  14. Hi Katherine,

Whilst I like to read quite an eclectic mix of genres, cozy mysteries are generally read infrequently and to lighten the tension between my more intense stories.

I always enjoy the play on the titles which cozy authors somehow manage to come up with and the modern graphic range of cover art being produced is amazing and designed by some very talented artists in their field.

My snack of choice was, is and I suspect always will be, the choclate option!

Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend :)

  15. Chocolate and books definitely don't mix. Although I'm not sure about greasy, buttery fingers either lol!! Love your post :D

  16. I'd go with chocolate. That's why I love reading on a Kindle; they wipe off. 😂

  19. Popcorn and reading go together for me. I love a good cozy mystery title pun and a great cover. I’m looking forward to reading Another One Bites the Crust when it’s released.

  20. I love cozies, titles don't phase much me in this genre. I more dislike cheesy romance titles. Barf! lol

  21. What a fun pun for the title.

I don't know why, but some books do seem to require certain foods. I'm trying to give up chocolate, but popcorn sounds yummy.

  22. I think I would have to go with popcorn too as a reading snack. I do eat my lunch while reading during my lunch break at work. I love the sound of Assault and Buttery (my husband groaned when I read the title to him. Haha). I hope you are enjoying it!

  23. Chocolate and books do end with chocolatey pages. Assault and Buttery sounds so fun! A nemesis definitely sounds in the wings.

  25. I don't eat candy regularly, but if I did, I'd pick popcorn. That's the safest thing for me to eat while reading. Plus, it's less messy.
