2. East of Eden by John Steinbeck - This is another book I read on my own though I was in high school for this one. There was a read along with this one not to long ago and it made me realize how little I remember about the story.
3. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - Another one I read 20+ years ago and need to reread as an adult. I've read a few pages of it recently but got distracted and haven't picked it back up. I love Adams' dry offbeat humor.
4. What Happens in London by Julia Quinn - I laughed until I cried over parts of this one when I was reading it. I know not everyone loves this one and the end is a little random but the part where Sebastian does a reading from Miss Butterworth and the Mad Baron is hilarious.
5. Head Over Heels by Jill Shalvis - Sawyer and Chloe are definitely one of everyone's favorite Lucky Harbor couples but it's been awhile since I read it. With the new novella about them out I feel the need to go revisit the beginning!
7. Christmas with Anne by L.M. Montgomery - This is another one I always want to read around Christmas time. These short stories and excerpts from books are all about Christmas and set the perfect mood for the holiday.
8. The Blue Bedroom and Other Stories by Rosanunde Pilcher - I haven't read any Pilcher in awhile and the other day I realized I was missing her. This short story collection is one of my favorites.
9. The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom - I try and remind myself to reread this book every so often. It's not an easy read but it's such an amazing book and really shows the best humanity has to offer while in the middle of the worst.
10. Any Maud Silver book by Patricia Wentworth - It's been awhile since I've caught up with my favorite Governess turned Detective and I miss her!
The Hiding Place is a good choice! I forgot that on my list and I would like to re-read it. :)

It's a tough read but it's definitely worth it!

DeleteGood picks. I should probably reread most of the books I read in high school because I feel like I did so much critical reading/analysis that I didn't get to just enjoy the stories for what they were. Makes me wonder if I'd be able to naturally pick up on all the themes and symbols again.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately on your list I've only read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Only a few years ago, I believe.
But The Great Gatsby is a fave of mine, but for some reason I've yet to read any more of his work. I need to remedy that.
I've also only read Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men(required school reading) but I liked it. I should really pick something else of his up.

ReplyDeleteI get a guilty cringe whenever I see a Hitchhiker's Guide reference bc I still have never read it! I really need to get on that. I have Anne of GG on my list-so now I definitely have to seek out this Christmas story for December!

DeleteWhat a great list, Katherine! I would really like to re-read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy again at some point. I'm not sure about The Hiding Place, although I still have my copy of that one.
ReplyDeleteI don't often re-read, although I do try to make that my rule about keeping books I've read--that I'll only keep them if I plan to re-read them someday. I know I break it all the time as hard as I find it to part with books. I'm getting better at it though. Slowly. :-)
It is so difficult to get rid of books! I finally started doing paperbackswap.com so at least they're going to a good home!

DeleteI recently read The Hitchhiker's Guide and am a bit bummed that I felt kind of "meh" about it. Maybe because I was trying to read the whole thing in one day--I wonder if that's one of those that might be better listened to.

Hitchhiker's Guide is definitely not for everyone . It's been so long since I read it I'm not entirely sure it's for me!
