Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
My Answer:
It feels a little funny answering as I don't really feel like I know what I'm doing most of the time! The one thing I got burned with recently is not being flexible with my schedule. I had it in my head what date a review was going to be posted and forced myself to read the book even though I wasn't in the mood for it. It definitely impacted my reading experience in a negative way. I'm trying to be a little more flexible in the future.
The Beginning from Chapter 1:
"I was in fourth grade and in trouble. The students of Wildwood Elementary School in Burlington, Massachusetts, shifted in their uncomfortable metal seats as they waited for me to say my next line. A dog rested in my arms and an entire musical rested on my shoulders"
Page 56 (well actually page 57 because there's no text on page 56:
"I remember many details about the days my sons came into the world but very little about my own birthday. Partly because I was a newborn baby, and partly because my mother was always a little coy about how the birth went down."

I try not to set a date to have a book finished by, and just read when I want to. I don't retain information well when I force myself to read faster. Great advice =)

I've stopped setting a date but I do like to plan so it can be tough!
DeleteI have moods for differrent genres. My reviews suffer if I force myself to read something, even though I may have committed to reviewing at a certain time. I think most authors realize it is to their benefit to give us the extra time if we need it.

The interesting thing with reviewing is that I've really been paying to what I'm reading when. I never realized how seasonal my genres were!

DeleteI've seen Amy Poehler's book in quite a few posts, and I've been curious about it. Like you, I don't watch SNL or Parks & Recreation. In fact, I'm usually reading instead of watching TV. But I'm always curious about how someone's life led them to where they ended up. I hope you enjoy Amy's story.

DeleteRemaining flexible is always a good idea, and unless I have an ARC that needs to be finished by a certain date, I try not to set specific dates that reviews need to be done by. Great choices in excerpts, thanks for sharing.

DeleteStarting out, I thought I'd have some sort of calendar for reviews. Now I know they'll just go up whenever they get done. I do have an end of year deadline for the "challenges" I've signed up for- and I'm getting a little nervous about how quickly the year is going by. I think I've been a little too flexible this year!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to find that line between getting the reading I need to get done and still having fun with it. I'm a little type A so it can be challenging!
DeleteFlexible scheduling keeps it more fun for the blogger, so I agree. I like Amy P. also, though I've never seen her in a tv show, only in short clips, on talk shows and award shows. She seems to be very humorous and her and Tina Fey together are a great comedic couple. Enjoy the rest of the book.

DeleteI sometimes find myself in a bit of a jamb when reviewing. I'm so excited about the book, then for whatever reason, I end up having to rush to read it so my review will be on time. I just want to read everything. LOL

DeleteOh, I do that too with books and review dates, it can be so stressful. I'm trying to be more flexible and not get stuck on when the review goes up. It's a challenge for me some days.
