Friday Linkups: Head Over Heels
It's Friday and time to link up with Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer, Book Beginnings on Fridays hosted by Rose City Reader and The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice
Book Blogger Hop Question:
As you grow in your blogging experience, have you become more particular in terms of what you will post on your blog or what books you will read for review?
My Answer:
I'm not sure anything has really changed that much. I started just reviewing what I read and I still do that though I've started reading more genres. I am more careful with my NetGalley requests than I was when I started but that's mostly because I got in way over my head!
This week's book is the 3rd Lucky Harbor book from Jill Shalvis - Head Over Heels. This is actually a reread for me but I loved Chloe and Sawyer and now that I have the new Christmas novella featuring them I wanted to go revisit. So far it is not disappointing!
From the Beginning:
"It wasn't often that Chloe Traeger beat her sisters into the kitchen in the morning, but with Tara and Maddie currently sleeping with the town's two hottest hotties, it'd been only been a matter of time. And in the name of fairness, Chloe hadn't actually gotten to bed yet, but that was just a technicality."
From page 56 in my paperback:
""He didn't - we weren't-" Maggie sagged. "Oh forget it." She clapped her hands to her cheeks. "I jumped him on the way over here."
"While driving?" Tara asked in horror.
I still haven't learned to restrain myself on Netgalley, but hopefully I will one day. 'Head Over Heals' sounds like an adorable book that I think I might actually enjoy as a holiday read! Thanks for sharing :) Have a great weekend!

Every time I think I've learned to restrain myself it turns out that it's more like they just haven't put much that I like! This is definitely a fun read!
DeleteI've never heard of this series before but it sounds like a cute book. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! I've really enjoyed this whole series!
DeleteI have never read this author, but I'm curious...and this one sounds like fun! Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this whole series! Worth trying if you're looking for a light read.
DeleteHaha. That excerpt made me laugh and what a cute cover!
ReplyDeleteYeah I couldn't pass up that excerpt!
DeleteNot a genre I would normally read but the cover is an excellent advertisement!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun series! If you ever decide to try contemps this would definitely be one to try!
DeleteWith three sisters as characters, I can only imagine all the trouble that will surface in this series! Thank you for introducing me to this author and this series. It sounds delightful!
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features THE 13 OF HEARTS.
This is a really fun series. Shalvis sets it up like a series of trilogies so you don't get the character overload!
DeleteOh, the 56 made me laugh out loud "While driving?" LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a Shalvis book somewhere`on my Kindle; some day I'll get around to reading it. Enjoy your re-read!
I couldn't resist the 56! I think you'd enjoy this series!
DeleteI'm new to NetGalley, so I'm trying to be conservative and not request too many books at a time. I also have not yet developed discipline in writing reviews, so I don't want to wind up "in debt" with my commitments.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Reading in Texas.
By the way, on Everything Nyze, there's an interesting take on the question in the context of memes. Given that the question itself came from a meme, I found that particularly interesting.
Oh I loved what Nyze did with this question! It's very smart to be conservative with NetGalley! I went overboard and am still catching up.
DeleteI believe that's every new bloggers first lesson learned, cut back on the Netgalley requests. It sure was mine too. I've more recently just got my % at about 80. So I will definitely never let it slip as low as I had it at one point. :/
ReplyDeleteI also just review whatever I read. I would never change it just for blogging purposes. This year has just seen my reading mood/tastes change a little, but that's how it goes. Nothing to do with my now being a blogger.
That book sounds super cute!
Happy reading!

Yay to getting up to an 80! I'm not there yet but it's getting better!
DeleteNetgalley and I have a twisted relationship. So many books so little time. I do try to read down my shelf but have become much more picky about taking a book. I love the Jill Shaves books and have not seen this one.
ReplyDeleteThis is an early one in the Lucky Harbor series! I really loved it! In glad to hear I'm not the only one with above hate relationship with NetGalley!
DeleteWe as new bloggers tend to go overboard and add things that we wouldn't add now.
ReplyDeleteI am very selective now. :)
Nice answer, Katherine. We are getting so many good answers to this question. Love it.
ENJOY your weekend.
Happy Hopping!!

I'm getting more selective but sometimes it's so hard!
DeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I love the 56 quote you chose, it's too funny! I haven't read anything funny in a while so it's a welcome break.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Oh I'm glad you enjoyed it! I couldn't resist using it when I came across it!
DeleteThe 56 made me laugh! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I couldn't pass this one up!
DeleteI bet this is a fun read!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
It really is! Shalvis hasn't let me down yet!
DeleteI'm so behind on this author's work but she's great. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm behind as well but yet I'm still rereading!
DeleteThe first year I read what I liked, the second year I dabbled in new authors and genres. The third year..I am blowing things up..trying all kinds of new stuff. LOL I am more selective and don't over request.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying not to over request but it's so hard! You have been reading all kinds of genres! I never know what I'm going to see!
Delete- I think almost anyone who has opened a NetGalley account at first go in way over their heads; it’s an exciting moment ha ha! I know I sure did, but like you, I’ve grown to be more cautious and selective.
ReplyDelete- I love the teasers! The novel feels lighthearted and giddy. I think I actually still wake up with the motion to “beat” my kids to the kitchen ha ha!
Have a wonderful weekend!
I try to get up earlier than everyone else too! Having my coffee in quiet is worth less sleep! NetGalley is so dangerous!
DeleteYup, I think drowning in NG books is a right of passage for any new blogger. lol. Boy, did I learn my lesson.
ReplyDeleteHa! That teaser is cute.
I'm learning but it's so hard!
DeleteNetGalley is so cruel to me. Haha! Anyway, the excerpts were funny. :)

I do wonder why you're having such trouble. Maybe location?
DeleteIt's been so long since I've read an adult romance that I am shocked by the opening. Ha! My world is very YA. Thanks for dropping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I've been reading lighter stuff so this was a shock to me as well!
DeleteIt is so ease to get in over your head-I found that too in the beginning. I am so much more cautious now. Thank you for visiting.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to be more cautious too! Hopefully we will both do better!
DeleteThanks for visiting the blog, Head over heels sounds adorable and I too have to be careful with Net Galley requests
ReplyDeleteThis book is a lot of fun! I am trying to limit requests but it can definitely be a challenge!
DeleteYeah I could see why she would beat her sisters to the kitchen! Lol. Thanks for stopping by my blog! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! That definitely is a reason!
DeleteHi, I followed the Book Blogger hop over here. That book sounds like fun, even though it's not a genre I usually read. GREAT quote! I haven't gotten into netgallery, but I'm another who mostly reviews whatever I'm reading, and I don't take on reviews for tours unless it's a book I think I'll like reading. My reading time has gotten a bit too precious to spend on "homework."
ReplyDeleteI claim to keep a schedule--Mondays are adult books, Wed. kids. But in fact I often fill in with other things and sometimes read 3 kids books in a row, or whatever. I'm pretty consistent about Flash Fiction on Fridays, though!
Rebecca at The Ninja Librarian
I love the idea of keeping a schedule but it definitely is a challenge! I'm getting better about NetGalley and I'm looking forward to doing a little more TBR reading!
DeleteI have a few Jill Shalvis novels just waiting patiently for me to read...thanks for reminding me, and for visiting my Friday post.
ReplyDeleteI love Shalvis! I definitely hope you try the Lucky Harbor series soon! Is love to hear your thoughts!
