Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Favorite TV Shows

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is top ten favorite other stuff.  Since I'm not much of a movie watcher I went with TV.  I do a lot of TV watching on my Kindle Fire while I'm cooking, getting ready or doing other things that involve my hands but not my brain.  These are the shows I'm currently loving.

1. Whitechapel- (AmazonPrime) I love most things BBC.  They just seem to do murder oh so wonderfully and Whitechapel is no exception.  The mysteries are dark and gritty with an undercurrent of history.  The first story arc involves a Ripper copy-cat and history features in every case.  A lot of huge issues get tackled here like the class issue between the DI and the other police as well as the OCD of the DI but all the issues are dealt without getting preachy or making a lesson out of it.

2.  Doctor Who - when I was a kid I used to watch Doctor Who with my dad.  Even though it was the 80s the only Doctor we saw here in the States (or at least the ones we saw) was #4 Tom Baker who was actually from the 70s. The old ones are great with most of the props being cobbled together with supplies found around the office and extras being whichever crew member isn't actively working a camera.  The reboot is probably better plotted and definitely better financed.  I adore David Tennant though I liked the other 2 and can't wait to see where #12 takes the show.

3. The Bletchley Circle - A fantastic show about a group of women who worked at Bletchley Park in World War 2 and are finding it a little difficult to settle down into civilian life.  When they start using their abilities with codes and patterns to solve crime it gets intense.  The 2nd season just ended so hopefully it will join season 1 on Netflix.  This is another short one with each season consisting of 3 shows.

4.  Numb3rs - I've been watching this one on Netflix and I'm almost done with it.  I'll be sad not to spend more time with Don's team and family. I loved Rob Morrow as a neurotic New York doctor in Northern Exposure so it's fun to see him do something so completely different.  The math connection is a bit of a stretch as the series goes on but it's still a fun crime show.

5.  CSI - I was not sold when I heard Ted Danson would be the new lead on CSI but I've really loved the way the show has gone.  I love Morgan, Greg and Finn and the whole way the show has gone.  Always a fun show to watch.

6.  NCIS - This is probably my favorite of the crime shows.  Mark Harmon does such a good job and they've done a pretty good job staying away from the epic conspiracies that cause me to lose interest in a crime show (The Mentalist with the whole Red John thing is anyone watched that).  I like that their office is basically cubicles which is much more realistic than the metal and glass of CSI.  I like the new character they've added with Ellie Bishop.

7.  Who Do You Think You Are? - This show was originally on NBC before ending up on TLC and I LOVE it!  It's a genealogy show where they try to answer a question a celebrity has about their family history.  They travel all over the world and go to places that connect to their families and find out all kinds of stuff.  They've had tons of people on including Sarah Jessica Parker, Chelsea Handler, Emmitt Smith, Jim Parsons and Lisa Kudrow.  If I ever win the lottery or come into bunches of money I'm figuring out how to do this.

 8. Cupcake Wars - I love cupcakes and always enjoy this show.  I even watch reruns periodically.  I love seeing what flavor combinations.

  9. Next Food Network Star - I like seeing what challenges they come up with and all the different POVs.  Plus, I like Jeff Mauro and Damaris who won last year.  Not sure who I want to win this season.

 10. The Big Bang Theory - I love this show!  Bernadette is my favorite character by far.  I loved the one where Sheldon and Howard went to war over a parking space and Amy and Bernadette got involved though the one where Penny ends up getting involved in online gaming is pretty good too.  I feel the urge for a rewatch session!

So what are you watching these days?

    1. It's definitely worth a watch though not something I'd watch while home alone. I really have enjoyed it.

  2. Interesting list! I don't watch any of these shows (yet) but I've heard great things about The Bletchley Circle.

  3. I'm a sucker for Big Bang anything food-related. We only have Netflix nowadays, so that actually helps me stay focused on books. I'd lose hours otherwise. lol

    1. I keep thinking about getting rid of cable since we have Netflix and Amazon but we watch too many sports. Plus, I'd miss Food Network!

  4. Oh man, I've only watched Big Bang(it made my list too) on your list. I really don't watch TV. I use too.
Opps, actually I use to watch all the CSI's. Vegas was always my favourite until everyone started leaving(getting killed off...). I haven't watched it in years.
And I'm an awful person because I still haven't seen a single episode of Doctor Who. I know it'll be a me type show, but it is a little daunting figuring out what Doctor I should start with. :)
    Great list!

    1. Not awful! Just start with #9 (first season of the reboot) and you'll be fine. It's BBC so at the longest a season is only 16 shows. You'll be caught up in no time!

  5. I really like Next Food Network Star, although I haven't had time to watch it much this season. Big Bang Theory is a good one, too, but I hardly ever watch the new episodes--I mainly catch the reruns in syndication!

    1. This season it's hard to pick a front runner. There's definitely a few who I wish would go home already though! Love Big Bang Theory. I really need to watch some of the reruns. The older ones are some of the best ones.

  6. I am ashamed to admit I don't know about Bletchley Park, and I see you have it listed here as a show, and in the previous post as a book. I am going to google it now so I know the background of it all.
I used to love CSI in Vegas with the original cast. Haven't watched in several years. I now watch Criminal Minds as a sort of replacement for that type of show. I should check out Numbers as I loved Rob Morrow in Northern Exposure (loved thw whole show actually) and haven't seen him in anything lately.
    Thanks for sharing your choices.

    1. I do love Criminal Minds! I need to rewatch some of the older ones of that one too. CSI has gotten better now that they've stabilized. Everyone who was leaving has left and the new people look like they'll be here for awhile. They've kind of found their grove.
Numbers is definitely a 180 from Morrow's Northern Exposure character! I'd love to rewatch that one but I can't seem to find it anywhere!

  7. One through Six..yes, yes, yes! My hubby and I are BBC junkies. I also like things like Falling Skies, Under the Dome, Perception, Sleepy Hollow. I do not watch any reality tv or sitcoms.

    1. I love Perception and Sleepy Hollow! Both are fantastic! I used to not watch any reality shows but I've found they're slowly sneaking in with the food stuff!

  8. My husband gets a lot of his television watching in the same way. :-)

I feel so behind on television. I had hoped to use this summer to catch up on some of those shows that everyone raves about, but I haven't had much time to devote to TV watching. I blame work, mostly. Too much overtime.

I really like Dr. Who. I'm very behind with that show right now. I'm slowly making my way through the first season of The Americans at the moment.

    1. I have The Americans saved on my Amazon watchlist but haven't gotten there yet. Really I need to do nothing other than watch TV and read for the next year and I might be vaguely caught up!

  9. I'm a budding Dr Who fanlet - I haven't reached full fandom yet. ;-) I also really enjoy NCIS but forgot to put it on my list! (Well, I haven't re-watched any of the episodes, so that's probably why it didn't make the cut.) I definitely want to see The Bletchley Circle - that one hadn't even crossed my radar yet!

    1. I thought of you for The Bletchley Circle. I think you'd like it! Each season is only 3 episodes so far so it's pretty easy to get caught up! Full Doctor Who fandom is scary so I tend to avoid it. It is fab though! So excited about the new doctor!

  10. Cupcake wars is so fun to watch. I love all those shows.. especially the challenges around Halloween. I love what they create when the make those neat Halloween food scenes.

    1. You really are! I love it and am just sad it only made it 3 seasons. It's only maybe 12 shows so it's pretty easy to get watched.

  12. I don't watch any of these! Hub used to watch Doctor Who but he doesn't like the new Doctor so gave it up. I watched enough to kind of know what was going on. I'm about to hop in bed with Law and Order SVU and my hexies, but otherwise we normally watch old shows on Netflix or movies.

    1. My husband doesn't watch Doctor Who at all which I don't get. It's fun and I love the ones that involve history. I've never gotten into Law and Order SVU but I should really try it. What did we do without Netflix?

  13. Whoo...Doctor Who! I'm obsessed. I think I'd really like Whitechapel. I should try it.

    1. So excited about the new Doctor. Can't wait till August! I hope Clara stays on a bit longer. I really like her as well. But then I wasn't a Rose fan so I think I'm a little different from most. Whitechapel is amazing! Cannot express how much I enjoy that show.

    1. I think the 2nd season was on in April? It was only 3 episodes and I ended up missing one and had to buy it from Amazon. Hopefully they'll add it to Netflix soon.

  16. Sheldon's my favorite, followed closely by Amy! I love The Big Bang Theory. And NCIS is one of my favorite shows of all time. I was sad to see Ziva go but I love that her leaving has pumped new blood to the show :) And oooh, I haven't heard of Whitechapel yet, sounds interesting, (and Rupert Penry-Jones!) :) Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my TTT :)

  17. You have some very good shows, Katherine. A few I haven't heard of such as The Bletchley Circle. And others I forgot to add to my list--Big Bang Theory and Numb3ers. I watch some of the cooking shows/competions, too. Good list!

  18. We used to make it a point to stay home on Friday evenings just so we could watch Numb3rs. The math did get a little over the top sometime (and you gotta think if it really worked that well, you'd be hearing about how it was solving crimes all of the time) but I did love the relationships.
